Yes, that was a big seller for me. Going to have to lay a lot of cable anyway so avoiding a few extra power cables is good for me!

This happened to me recently. I just reinstalled the apps and used the same keys and they worked. I'm pretty sure they only check if the keys are being used on one computer at a time. You can guarantee that the stolen mac was formated and your keys aren't being used.

Ah yes, good idea. I was thinking about putting everything in conduit\ducting with pull through string, but seeing as cable is pretty cheap I might as well put two down in most difficult places.
-
• #10181
Might as well.
It also reminds me of a episode of Grand Designs I saw. The home owner had spent literally thousands on a wired network in the whole house, with a whole closet converted to server rack. (I should add that this was a modern build with plasterboard walls, not a stone house like yours) The presenter guy said 'well that's impressive, but have you considered wifi?'. Awkward.
-
• #10182
Ha! Yes, don't think mine will be quite that impressive, not sure I can sneak in a whole cupboard full or servers, but I have my man cave log cabin for that!
-
• #10183
I have no sympathy for your Wifi issues. Zero. None.
-
• #10184
Ha! How about if I add the fact for the next two years I am living in a mobile home? Which currently has no plumbed in sewage?!
-
• #10185
I'm sure no one will hear your tiny violin once your in your massive fully renovated farm house with a log cabin with what I guess would be the same square footage as my entire flat.
I'm not even slightly jealous.
-
• #10186
Ha! fair point... No complaining from me. Wife isn't so happy, just managed to burn her favourite jumper on the log burner in the cabin...

Wait for the new iMacs that'll be able to run better fart apps or buy this
and be a over grand better off?
The HP is £1k cheaper than current similar spec iMac but prices are almost certain to be higher on the new model ones eh?
Infact, the HP comes with 16gb of memory, if I upgrade the iMac to that the difference is almost £1200. The HP also has more video ram, upgrade the imac and the difference is closer to £1500.
The only possible downgrade in spec with the HP is that it runs 2 hard drives, a 128mb ssd and a 2tb regular drive whereas the iMac has one fusion drive but that's just pretty much the same thing isn't it?
-
• #10188
But look at the peripherals...
You are quite correct about the Fusion drives, they are a 64gb (maybe even less? They downgraded them recently, my older one is 128GB) SSD and a normal 1TB spinner... its possible to split them (which I ended up doing for a bit). -
• #10189
Also, B&O should partner with someone and make proper nice PC's... I've posted this before but...
-
• #10190
Do they really look that bad?
Gonna hit up PC world tonight and see if I can see how it all looks in the flesh.
Even if the peripherals are shite, a couple hundred quid max should buy me a nice keyboard and touchpad - I'd probably want the Apple trackpad thing if I got the iMac and that'd be another couple hundred quid anyway.

Would love to see this.

It's also possible to make your own in terminal. Takes about ten minutes. Why anyone would pay for one is beyond me.
If you were running OSX on that HP you could combine those two drives into a fusion drive in minutes.

I think we take a lot of things Apple for granted... sure that all in one looks ok... but I bet when you compare it to an iMac IRL you'll realise build and design quality are much worse. Those shine legs are a bit grim for a start... I'm of the opinion that a computer is also part of the furniture so needs to look good...
-
• #10194
Aye, easiest way to get 2 drives in a Mac though, I had an extra drive fitted into a Mini once but wouldn't be keen on cracking open an iMac to put another drive in to create a Fusion...
-
• #10195
I know what you're saying and I said the same earlier in the thread myself, that I'd be willing to pay a premium for the quality of the Apple stuff but there's a limit to how much extra I'm willing to pay and £1k is over that limit.
-
• #10196
If you were running OSX on that HP
Tell me more...
-
• #10197
sure that all in one looks ok...
It's hideous. Pound's on the rise, so Apple may be reducing their prices next week...
-
• #10198
OHHHH you don't know about Hackintoshes?
I have OS X installed on a PC thing I built myself, could be a solution that works for you? -
• #10199
Aye, I feel the same about the laptops... don't think i really need one and 3k on something I don't need is a bit much... prob just go on holiday...
-
• #10200
I'd wouldn't hackintosh something that would be used for work. It can easily get borked by a software update...
Oh, you'll love this stuff then. Especially as laying an ethernet cable will be enough and you won't have to worry about getting power to the WiFi access points.
