Erm yes, you are suggesting that their actions are not acceptable due to the association you have drawn with the practice of blacking up to ridicule or cause offense.
Anyway being Cornish they probably voted Tory and pro Brexit so fuck 'em anyway.

Has anyone black complained about these morracists?

I came here for Brexit chat, I found an argument about morris dancers. Long live the forum.

Funny enough on the Dutch "zwarte pieten"... they're not meant to depict slaves but Moors from Spain, where Sinterklaas is supposed to come from even though he's inspired by a Catholic saint in what's now Turkey.
Though other says it's meant to depict freed slaves and yet others chimneys sweeps.
Confusing. I never gave it much thought as a kid, but my school was 100% white. They're changing the character now in some places.
As long as we can still eat the candy they throw to kids from the floor, no excess health and safety please ;)

Also this actual example could possibly not be racist but who the fuck blacks up now anyhow? Twats. Reinforces that Morris dancing is fe cunts.

^typical urban attitude to innocent rural pursuits. First they banned marrying your sister, then fox hunting and now your going after Border Morris.
Bastards

So we have to build a wall to keep the morris dancers out, and the morris dancers will pay for it. Yes?
Have we thought about just taking away their hankies? They seem to be unable to "Morris" without them.
-
• #5662
Hankies, pah, I refer you back to the coconutters.
-
• #5663
Take their hankies and they will resort to banging sticks together. And no one wants that.
-
• #5664
I've seen them armed with flower garlands without a care in the world for hay fever sufferers.

zwarte pieten
Apparently the Swiss have a guy called "schmutzli" (≈"dirty man") who's similar. He's this black guy who'll whip the kids to within an inch of their lives and then drag them off to the woods to be his slaves if they've been naughty.
My brother was there during some election (they have them all the time but this was for central government) and messaged me pics of a few posters. White sheep throwing the black sheep out, a bowl of swiss passports with greedy black hands reaching for them, and so on. Mental.
Edit: I've never been to Switzerland myself and have probably got everything wrong.

Are we sure this isn't cultural appropriation of Titi Torea, the Maori stick-banging game?
-
• #5667
Nope, you've got it bang on. It's a lovely country, but there's an unpleasant streak of xenophobia bubbling away just below the surface (and, frankly, outright racism) which the UDP is happy to exploit in a UKIP-style 'we're not racist but' dogwhistle fashion. If you thought the black sheep poster was bad you should try and find the minaret referendum poster clearly equating minarets with ballistic missiles. Subtle it was not.

• #5668
Yes, there are, albeit not many. I've no doubt they're grateful for all the people being so virtuously and volubly offended on their behalf though.

Back to Morris Dancers, I'd heard from that "Morris" was a corruption of Moorish, meaning from the Moors in North Africa.
At a time when dancing to rhythmic music was frowned upon by the church cos it created sass and frivolity. The dancers would black up so they could deny it was any of the local god fearing white people and blame it on some itinerant Africans with a fetish for hankies bells and tankards. A lot of troupes dropped the paint a long time back and others have switched to blue paint.
I think it's pretty sketchy to black up regardless of the original intention, it's bad but never as bad s David Baddiel blacking up for his oh so hilarious Jason Lee impression. -

Johnson in a speech last night saying "Brexit means Brexit and we're going to make a titanic success of it."
Remind me how the Titanic got on on it's maiden voyage again, Boris.

So basically we're going to go too quickly with no ability to change direction if we need to.

So is 'whitening up' racist?

Has anyone with an Irish grandparent applied for and received an irish passport since brexit? Interested to hear about the process, website is pretty confusing.

• #5674
Is it as racist as blacking up? No. No it is most certainly not. It's worrying that these concepts require further explanation.

Sunk by an Englishman? ;)
no, not really. i'm just wondering if this conversation ever took place. probably not.
