The Cat Thread

Yes I've been lurking the thread for a while so was aware of the suckiness of JL so no need to go through that trauma again x

We both have a penchant for British shorthairs so considering an older one from a breeder that's used to the indoor life but will get to the local rescue places and see what happens.

Our cat fell out of a 2nd floor window this morning. Found him sitting in the garden as if nothing happened. Going to take him to the vet when it opens to check him over but so far, looks like a very lucky escape.

Thick bushes broke his fall and it was soft mud underneath the bushes. 2 floors is probably optimum cat falling height too I reckon.

What a panic. Hope there is nothing damaged under the bonnet.

He has obviously shat himself right up but he's walking and jumping as normal, eating and using his tray. Seeing vet at 9.45.

Yup, he's fine.

Phew... 8 lives left for him now?

Well, he has a really bad heart problem so he lived on his last life since he was born 8 years ago!

Doing very well considering. His heart valves are so fucked that you can actually feel and hear them flapping around when his heart beats.

Amazingly, he shows no signs of heart disease...normal pulse...good respiration rate..normal heart related hormones. There is a good chance that one day his ticker will just pack up but 8 years of normal healthy life under the belt and still strong.

another 8 to go, I think! :-)

So it looks like we're off to meet a retired show cat on Sunday. We've passed the phone interview with the breeder and she's invited us to meet her and bring a carrier so hopefully she likes the cut of our jib. We're excited but trying not to get our hopes up just in case.

My mums cat fell from 30-odd feet on to concrete steps when he was about 1 and was fine. In fact, he's 20 now.

My cat, on the other hand, went out the window of our old place a bunch of times and usually had superficial injuries.

We've just moved into a house (after always living in flats in London) which has a cat flap. She's fine using the flap to come back into the house but won't go through it to go out. She just sits there staring at it, I've been helping her through to train her so I'm hoping she'll do it eventually, just weird that she'll not think twice about it when coming back in.

It's probably just cautious about not being able to see what's on the other side.

Yeah, she is very cautious by nature, she's a very small cat and gets stressed easily by other bigger cats.

Currently curled up next to me watching It came from Outer space, he may disapear under the bed later and hide.

Patch is also terrified of the firework... this year... it's all coming from next door's garden... seriously? Is that even allowed? Locked her in now...

Mo hid under the dining table, back of the house and curtains drawn.
Fireworks been going on for hours now.

I cooked tea. Steak. Someone broke cover to sit next to me and try to rob steak off my fork.
Now having a bath next to me on the sofa.
Not as twitchy now.

Lady Watson wiped out last night.

So we adopted Fleur last night, she was very affectionate and playful at the breeders home and was very inquisitive on the journey home but she's been hiding under the sofa since we got home.
No doubt it's just new environment nerves.
Should we be attempting to get her to come out to play or let her find her feet in her own time? Last thing we want to do is stress her out but don't want her to feel abandoned either!
She's not done her business or eaten yet as far as we can tell.

Give her time and space.

Release a number of mice. Cats crave hunting and the mousey-murder will bond you

if you have 2 litter trays put one near the sofa one in the next room. May be try to keep her confined to one /two rooms, i just takes time, i fostered a cat who went from hissing no contact antihuman to sitting on my lap wanting fuss in the space of about a month and a half it just takes time, patience and treats lots of treats, did i mention treats :)
