Nah, it's because of the massive heavy front flap that (prior to this new design) had very little support so it'd just wobble around a lot and eventually snap off. It's a known issue (search online), but while they work they're great mudguards.
It's just frustrating that my fork mounting point changed and now the design of them has changed, when I was hoping this'd be a five minute job. Oh well, on with the dremelling.

Maybe pay the lbs to do it and save yourself the trouble, most of the time when mudguards snap it's because of faulty installation
