  • ah man, i want a defender really badly at the moment.

  • It's a nice feeling!

I always get caught out and don't nod back when I use my Dad's!

Here's my old mans and her great great grandmother

  • ^ lovely

    my right knee hurts.

  • Finally sold my defender, 18 months odd ownership and 2.5k increase in value. I did nothing to the thing apart from an oil change when bought. I was hoping for snow last winter to flog it for a profit, but didn't need to do that.

  • Quite fancy a really scruffy defender, one that's lived in a forest it's whole life, hardly any original paint, does run well but nice and loose. No one will Park scrape that then drive off

  • Check out the ex MOD sales.

They've always got loads of 110s going cheap but you'd have to live with naturally aspirated diesel.

Quite fancy one myself but don't have the money with 2 projects already on the go.

  • i wanted one, but so uncomfortable if you are over 6'.

  • was like - the seat slider's jammed.

no; just doesn't go any further.

  • One day I shall take a photo of our 130 pickup for you all to marvel at its rustiness. Just need to get a wider angle lens to fit it all in the pic. It's very long.

  • It seems I only like cars that I struggle to fit in...

Drove the beetle with 2 passengers in the back the other day, had to have the seat way too far forward to be comfy!

  • Please! How is the 130 to drive, does it go round corners?

  • All defenders are rotten to drive. Sorry, 'have character'. The 130 has a better ride than the smaller cars, especially the 90 which is laughable, but it has the world's worst turning circle. I took it in a car park once, it took about 6 goes to get it in a space.

    It makes me smile erytym.

  • What are you comparing it to?

  • i can confirm that they corner like a battleship. surprisingly easy to park tho.

  • Other cars. I'm not sure I understand the question...

  • This sort of thing, late 80s 110 with box back. Cheap and rough looking. Doesnt matter how it is to drive as prob just become a city car/ go get things and walk dog

  • Get a K11 micra and put that engine in. As it's basically a development of a licence built A series (it even comes in 998 or 1275 sizes) it'll fit without sheet metal mods and once you lose the catalyst and put a proper exhaust on it's good for 100 reliable horsepower. And with a 5 speed box as a bonus.

  • Manual says 5W 40, I've got a big tub of 0W 40- why should I not use it?

  • no reason not to IMO - the 0w vs 5w is only really relates to viscosity when cold, if anything 0w will give you better cold start protection

the weight of both oils is the same at operating temperature, so should be fine.

  • Ben fogle....and more expensive on kindle than paper!

  • See I would disagree. Firstly I would look if there was a spec of oil and then match the rating as 0w is very thin (third thinner at 40c) and be an issue on some engines.

Edit quick google gives c30 spec and a40 spec and gives two differing grades so http://www.mobil1.co.uk/which-synthetic-engine-oil/porsche-engine-oil.aspx then the a40 spec is http://www.porscheownersmanuals.com/en/2/190/

  • Are you comparing similar vehicles? What does compare to a defender?

  • Depends how many patches the chasis has.
