  • Although if you buy lights they refund the fine...so probably a fairly reasonable incentive scheme (and really what excuse could there be for not having lights?):
    Road Safety Sergeant Rob Heard said: ‘The penalty for cyclists found riding without lights on their bikes at night is a £50 fine. ‘However, we run a rectification scheme in Hampshire whereby if a person goes to one of our approved cycle shops, buys a brand new set of lights, gets their penalty ticket stamped on the back and sends it back to police within 28 days then they will not be prosecuted.’

  • It does seem a good scheme and of course lights are a must. Hopefully people will go to the lbs since they need the ticket stamped.
    I wonder if they could have setup a temporary stall with a couple of them?
