I think they're priced so high because:
-fall in value of pound.
-public knowledge of fall in value in pound meaning Apple feel they can get away with proportionally higher increase in costs than are actually warranted by any fluctuation in currency exchange.
-people owning "premium" devices for longer - though this is at odds with Apple now providing their "professional" users with the best consumer laptop ever.
