What could go wrong?

On club runs you'll be surprised how many people think that lever is to adjust the action of the brakes, not to release the brake so you can fit the tyre between the brake pads.

My club runs have about 30% of QR levers open

It's not a quick release its a wheel buckle compensation lever.
