  • Greetings folks,

Thanks so much for the wheel info. I have Mavic rims at present and like them.I was always told Mavic and HPlus sons ? made decent rims that were strong and really good quality... I am looking to replace the rear one in the next year or so. Is going for a carbon one worth it or stick to aluminium?

Dear @vaultbrad Oh alright then as you asked.... Not great pic but please see below.

    Kit list as follows

    Oak custom 853 frame
    Bonavia cycles custom 853 stem
    Phil Wood rear hub
    Chris King front hub
Fizik Cyrano R1 Chameleon carbon handlebars
    TRP drilled brake lever
    Chris King headset
    Shimano XTR v brake
    Cinelli RAAM bottle cage
    White Industries cranks

    Added a Brooks C13 yesterday

I love it.... It has gradually warped in to something more touring like as the years have passed. It is really comfortable and is exactly what I wanted...

Peace and love and keep on cycling,
    Tim

  • Hi Tim, Cool bike! The dropouts look unusual, like there are two positions rather than fork ends. What's the thinking behind that?

I think I actually spotted you on CS7 around Clapham a couple of weeks ago. My first LFGSS celebrity spot ;) I'll give you a wave if a see you again.

On the subject of rims - I'm no expert but I think carbon is generally considered best for super-deep aeros and aluminium alloy is still best for normal everyday use. Metal always wins for durability and personally I don't have the money for high-end carbon or low end carbon and reconstructive dental work.
