On account of the mk3 being released. New ones are better in allowing bigger tyres and rubbing less, but you do have to stick a strip of chunky velcro to the inside of your fork and seatstays.

I was aware of the MK3s but they look like they would need more clearance between tyre and frame?
I have a caad10 with wide rims and I have barely any clearance at all
-
• #2479
I think the clearance at pinch points is the same, it looks like it narrows back to the mk2's width where it goes under the brake bridge.
But I have buckets of space on my bike, so couldn't tell how well it'd work in cases like yours.

What's the best option for a front mudguard for an old mtb with downtube mounted cables. Got a modern crud catcher but it fouls the cables and makes shifting rubbish. Is there a good bodge or workaround or is there a fork crown mounted guard for old rigid forks?

Currently have 24mm rims and 25mm gp4000s, so not much space left, probably about 2mm clearance at most.
Will probably have to downsize tyres before anything will fit

I just got some of the new SKS Raceblade pro XL (£31 in the 'stealth black' from Tredz with their £5 off code).
Put them on (CX bike with discs) in a rush as I was heading out and they fit perfectly first time with no adjustment needed at all.
I wasn't sure about the transition from permanent full-length mudguards but I'm impressed with these so far. Disclaimer: it's not rained yet.

I've lost the bolts that go through the fork and rear bridge for my sks longs. On holiday but trying to order some replacements off the 'bay for when I get back so I can get riding asap - any idea likely length/diameter? 13mm and 10mm length? Frame is a Genesis Vapour, and yes I've consulted Sheldon.

SKS Raceblade pro XL
It's really annoying that they don't do a Raceblade XL Long. I've put my rear Raceblade long in the clip on mount from a normal raceblade, but would love the wider clearance of an XL

Do chromoplastics have some sort of metallic strip for hooking up a dynamo tail light? Anyone done this with success?
-
• #2486
When I've done it I've drilled out one of the rivets and used that as one hole. Chromoplastics have a strip of metal that runs through the middle of the whole guard (encased in plastic).

Front derailleur arm fouls on the mudguard thusly, means it can't get far enough over so chain rubs in the big ring. What do?
-
• #2488
Put some spacers between the guard and the chainstay bridge so the guard sits closer to the wheel, thus creating more room for the derailleur?
What about denting the guard?

• #2489
Take a hot air dryer to the guard and bend it a bit where it touches . You will need gloves as it will be very hot when you do it .
-
• #2490
It's stainless steel, I think I'll need a very hot air dryer and a very thick pair of gloves.
Might get the hammers out.
EDIT - shouldn't have really had to ask, hammer worked perfectly.

would a hair dryer work, or do you mean a heat gun?

• #2492
Hi, looking for a pair if these myself. Not sure though, the old version used to rattle about. Did you look at the mk3 cruds too?
-
• #2493
The attachments on the new models are much better than the old ones. Softer/rubbery plastic and I didn't notice any rattling at all when I used it.
I didn't look at any others to be honest, as these had been recommended to me, and Crud Catchers have traditionally been a bit crap in my experience.

A nice excuse to spend a lot of money in a 1x drivetrain

+1
I have a near identical problem on my cdf but the cheapo plastic mudguard flexes out of the way nicely :-)

what width mudguards for 35c tyres, and has anyone got any lying around for sells?
-
• #2497
43mm sks bluemels
-
• #2498
10-12mm bigger is usually the best fit, but smaller differences can be accommodated if you have enough vertical clearance and a dremel.

• #2499
Thanks, seem to be out of stock in loads if places online. But I think I will get those too...

thank you
Crud racer 2s seem to be on sale to £15 at Halfords, for those with no clearance or mudguard mounts.
