  • Doesn't Giffgaff run on another companies network? I wonder if the other carrier is prioritising their own customers?
    I had a similar problem whilst on holiday and roaming which I solved by locking it to the one carrier who consistently gave me 3/4g but I don't think that helps here!

  • Yeah giffgaff runs on o2. I should have mentioned before that I bought the new phone because I broke my old one. The old one had a full signal all the time so it's not a problem with my location. I've tried locking to o2 but it still drops.

  • I've had the same issue with a giffgaff SIM, but with an HTC One. Something to do with how certain phones deal with network switching power-saving stuff I recall? Didn't happen with Three and never did fix it, just dropped giffgaff

  • Might be down to the bands that your phone can use. Some networks (especially ones that piggyback) don't have many bands to use Your new phone may only be able to access a few of the ones available, causing you to drop off 4G.
