It's mad, particularly mad in this case as he "had never participated in competitive cycling".

He was just some guy who ordered a box of steroids which got found at customs. Customs must have then asked all the sports associations if he was "one of theirs" at which point British Cycling would have searched their membership records and found he was (presumably for the insurance or via his club membership). They then went round to his house and demanded some piss, which he declined.

Now he's banned for 4 years from a sport he's never competed in....

Mad.

Yeah. Very mad. Especially the fact that he's now been named publicly.

Presumably he doesn't do too much competing in anything if they had to do it under his British Cycling registration.

Do you think his buddies will still let him go on the club run?

A friend who knows some female amateur MTB racers told me they quite freely admitted they do and that its use is rife in the amateur ranks. Purely anecdotal of course but its good enough for me. Gather up the pitchforks
