  • Ok I bought a second hand iPhone 6 to use with my existing Giffgaff sim. It kept dropping 4g signal down to E or GPRS. I thought the sim was to blame so ordered a replacement from Giffgaff, but it's still doing the same thing. I've done a hard reset, reset network settings, changed carrier settings to another network that doesn't run Giffgaff (runs on o2) and back to automatic and it still drops 4g after a few minutes.

I tried my girlfriend's vodafone sim and it seems to work fine so I'm pretty sure it's not the phone.

I've left a support ticket with Giffgaff but in the meantime does anyone have any ideas?

  • Doesn't Giffgaff run on another companies network? I wonder if the other carrier is prioritising their own customers?
I had a similar problem whilst on holiday and roaming which I solved by locking it to the one carrier who consistently gave me 3/4g but I don't think that helps here!

  • Its a reception issue, nothing to do with SIM.

That is normal behaviour for a phone if you are in a slightly iffy signal area. Number of bars doesn't indicate quality of connection.

Had the same with my O2 contract when I moved house. Switched networks to fix it.
