Paves killed me last winter. So many pu*t*res. And that was on Surrey roads

....although they do roll really nicely and I've superglued all the gashes for this season

There are no tyres bar studded one that can prevent you from losing traction on ice patches.

Gravelkings are really good. Very grippy, quite robust and faster that you would expect.

I have 28c Gravelkings on my commuter and have done really well in the past weeks rainy conditions.

+1 for gravel kings

Just got a set of gp 4 season 28s and a set of challenge Paris Roubaix for the winter. Will probably use the 4 seasons for commuting and then the Paris Roubaix for the nicer weather day club runs.
Had an ultra race on the rear for two weeks recently. All I can say is avoid - grip is non-existent.

Loving vittoria Corsa g+ so far as a replacement for paves. Theyre MUCH bigger than the 1mm marked size difference (27-28mm), so if 27paves are tight on your frame you probably won't fit the g+ 28s.
Roll considerably nicer and feel faster. They seem more fragile though, the casing feels thinner. -

Is there an acceptable range of widths that I can run on pacenti SL25 rims? Ie, lower and upper limits?
-
• #3761
Not really, probably avoid anything less than 23mm.
-
• #3762
Cheers - next question - is there an 'ideal' tire width for those rims? I was planning on using them with 32mm slicks and probably some 42mm cross tires at different times.

I'd says for aero, 25mm, for a good balance of weight, comfort and speed, 32mm.
Personally, I'd shit in some 42mm and go crazy.

Genuinely laughed. -

And it'll stop your wheels getting pinched.

The 30mm schwalbe s-ones sit very nicely on them.

Paselas or Gravel Kings for 28c run about town tyres?
-
• #3769
gravel kings, i had a terrible experience with paselas. GK lasted me quite a couple of thousand of miles without major incidents

lol.
Pasela's are a pretty safe bet in a variety of sizes. Won't ride as nicely as GK though. Puncture protection vs ride quality is basically your choice.

paselas are hipster's marathons
-
• #3773
you forgot the "major", it gives the melodramatic effect i was aiming for...

Haha, thanks all. I think I've come to a decision based on that mish mash of opinions!

What's the forum approved tyre for single-track, moderate off road? WTB nano or something else?
For off road route on Surly cross check.
I like my Durano DD in 25mm, feel grippier than the Durano Plus and don't have the squidgy blue layer. One puncture in 9 months and only a Durano Plus would have saved me.
