If Carlsberg organised a bike race...?

Posted on
  • Would you come to this event...? Or hit me up with what would be better...

    • 13 miles of closed road route
    • East London location
    • Craft beer tent at the finish
    • Timing chip and leaderboard
    • Cash prizes
    • Freebies
    • 1,000 riders

  • 1,000 riders?

    Do you mean a Sportive?

  • You think the police/council will close 13 miles of road in East London...?
Is this a fixie poseur race or a British Cycling race? I assume the former. 1000 people all trying to win the same race sounds like a bad idea to me.

  • @Pifko - Less of a Sportive, more of a race. Multiple waves of much smaller rider numbers. Overall winners based on fastest time / local rider etc...

@croft - No posing, just a genuine question. What makes this event Carlsberg worthy? Or not at all?

  • A 13 mile race is very short, especially for 1000 riders.

  • @Pifko - Less of a Sportive, more of a race. Multiple waves of much smaller rider numbers. Overall winners based on fastest time / local rider etc...

You could maybe let riders go individually at 1 minute intervals, and apply a 'no drafting' rule? Sounds like it could catch on!

  • @Sumo okay interesting... Would a double loop make it more enticing? (To everyone, not just the uber fit?)

  • @Pifko and the distance...? Or would you organise a totally different gig?

  • I'd keep it to a nice round distance like 10 or 25miles.

  • or maybe a unit of time, like 6, 12 or 24 hours?

  • Craft beer tent = magnet for twats. Why not have a real beer tent?

  • @Jingle_Jangle Sure thing - real beer it is... What else makes the event great hypothetically speaking?

  • @Pifko so 10 miles wouldn't be too short? @Sumo thinks so...

  • I think you're missing what @Pifko and @6pt were getting at

  • Bearing in mind this is your first post, I hope you'll understand the skepticism.

Who are you? A marketing/PR type floating ideas for a client?

Where do 13 miles and 1,000 riders come from?

You've contacted the Police to confirm they'll close the roads, or is it just that someone has had them closed before?

If it's a race, then what are the qualifying criteria? Just a chunky entry fee or will there be heats.

1,000 people and timing chips sounds more like the sort of thing laid on to massage the egos of Full Kit Wankers, than an actual race.

Are you in contact with #EC1Collective ?

  • @Scilly.Suffolk Yup, spot the first poster!! I'm a long time silent single speeder looking now to join the LFGSS chat :)

Just generally interested if there's an appetite out there for races that are non FKW focused but still chip timed etc. And what the consensus for something new would be??

Location / distance / heats / entry fee / rider numbers all up for debate. Closed roads surely are the best to ride on and not impossible!!!

  • 1000 riders on 13 miles of road, thats not much road per person.

  • non FKW focused

    Out

  • Rad Race 42 had 300 riders and that was a massive undertaking by people who have tons of experience organizing races.

  • Why limit yourself to a mere 1000? Why not more? 10,000 I say. Anyway I'm in. Bagsy not drafting the TRO or TM plans though.

  • Keen dude

  • EC1 Collective would be mad for this.
