  • To be fair to ManU, they came with the idea of defending in depth and trying to sneak an away goal on the counter. They would have been happy with a 0-0 but clearly hoped to be able to snatch a win. This strategy went out of the window in the first minute, forcing them to come out and exposing them at the back. At the same time, Chelsea's 3-4-3 gave them strength at the back , particularly early in the second half when soaking up what pressure ManU could bring to the game, as well as outlets at the front.

Although it has been said that Chelsea's goals all came on the counter attack with ManU dominating possession, it is difficult to see how Pedro's goal can be considered a counter attacking goal as ManU hadn't touched the ball before it went into the net. Similarly, Cahill's goal came from a corner, not the epitome of a counter attacking move. Hazard and Kante scored after carefully created build ups.

There was some counter attcking but none resulted in goals.

ManU's 56% posssion was clearly only "overwhelming" if you are a Brexiteer.

  • The link up play from Alonso and Hazard is starting to look good. Moses seems to have developed a good understanding with Dave and Willian/Pedro.

Can't see Cesc creeping back in the team at this rate. Matic looked good, even if it was only against Man Utd...

Who to drop from the back 3 once Zouma is match fit?

  • can see luiz, zouma and dave but one of them has to be the organiser if Zouma can step in to that roll it would be good, until then Terry/ Cahill - Luiz/zouma and dave is the only certainty for me.
Im really hoping Batshuayi can get some more games in lots of talent there.

  • Although Cahill played well yesterday, Luiz and Azpilicueta were exceptional. Cahill was a weak link so often in a back four. He is better protected in a back three. JT will struggle to get a slot and will probably morph into a coaching role as the season progresses.

Fabregas is a strange one. Whereas 3-4-3 brings out the best of a player like Moses,, it does Fabregas no favours. Not sure where he fits in now.

The irony of yesterday was that, whereas Mata doesn't suit a Mourinho system, he would be excellent in a Conte one and you could see that he realised that.
