Spotted this the other day, think it's the quintessential Porsche for me:

I was on the bus earlier today and went past a very weird shop that had a single car for sale in it, 1969 911, blue with a white racing stripe...
Strange...

Been lurking on this thread for a while but only recently re-started on my project car.
Just finished building the engine - it's a custom build 1600 16v "hybrid", on 45mm Jenvey bodies with a VW Motorsport S1600 exhaust manifold, destined for a Polo Coupe race / rally car

I went and got the Volvo today, it looks amazing in person, the interior is probably the most impressive aspect, but the whole vehicle looks incredible. Jim replaced some boost hose that was sucking shut in some circumstances and reset the ECU, it's re-learned and the same map is now faster, which is entertaining.
I then drove the Porsche into town and back again, it is slower, but it's so much more direct, more immediate, even if it lacks the visceral (oh fuck OH FUCK OH FUCK) of the Volvo as it comes on boost and really starts hauling. I really like the 911, it's huge fun to punt around in.

We drove the land rover to Clapham and bought some blue corn tortillas at whole foods today (gluten free obvs). Top that.

Hmm, ok, how about this:

those extractor bits look really good! I have a feeling i might need a set to remove all those bolts that have sat on the Polo shell since 1991 un-removed

I drove my Porsche to Glyndebourne today, then had a picnic and watched Madame Butterfly. Super.

^ What did Mme Butterfly do that needed watching?

That looks amazing.

Today I learned how slick the roads get when it rains in a super dry climate and the reason that modern cars have ABS.
Was going around 35, slowed down coming to a traffic queue at a red light and when I got down to a little over 20mph the wheels locked up and I realised I wasn't going to stop before I hit the fresh G wagon in front of me. Luckily managed to get off the brakes, back on the gas just in time to slide (quite literally) into the next lane over where there happened to be space.
My first ever really close call in a car, don't fancy anything like that again. I guess the lesson I learned is not to assume the conditions will be what I'm used to as I've never seen a road that slippery when wet at home...
Was shaking for fucking hours after, feel like a bit of a mug for putting myself in that position in the first place.

That happens here, loads of people crashing at lights when it's just rained... I first asummed it was just shitty drivers but it's compounded by a very slippy type of tarmac they use our in Queensland... Mental...

She met an American naval officer, married him, had a baby, waited three years after he buggered off, then killed herself with her father's sword when he turned up with a new wife to take their son away. And sang about it the whole time. As you do.

That's not tarmac, it's ground up cane toads. Bit of rain and they start to reanimate.
-
• #30696
That is pretty accurate, they're fucking EVERYWHERE!!!

Aaah,

I thought you'd sold the Porsche? Or is Porsche love back on the menu?
-
• #30699
No, it's still up for sale. But I didn't half enjoy giving it a good spanking down to the south coast.

It's oil and rubber from the past year. Deadly.
Quite possibly, the Volvo might not fit though - it's tight for the Porsche. You at your country estate tomorrow or fancy driving the Volvo (or the Porsche) back up from Hampshire?
