Got it here https://cycleworx.co.uk/search?q=yokozuna. They only have them in the warehouse, but they will bring them in if you wish to collect.

So, I installed a new disc and new pads on my fixed gear commuter as the old ones were worn out.
The new disc is braking perfectly, but it seems the pads are only gripping the outer 1cm of the disc. There's a good 3-5mm of unused disc left to the inside. It looks as if my brake caliper is sitting to far out.
Since this is a fork with an IS mount, a correct Shimano IS->160mmPM adapter, and a shimano deore brake caliper, there is no way of adjusting the caliper inward.
What should I do? -

Correct pads? Wheel properly seated?
Usually when something like that happens to me, I've overlooked something basic that's easily remedied.

Very much this, also mount could be upside down.

a correct Shimano IS->160mmPM adapter
A "+0" adapter for 160mm on the front, or a "+20mm" for 160mm on the rear?

I bought compatible pads and they fit the brake - so I hope it's not that.
Wheel: will check on that. But that would mean I'm too stupid to install a front wheel.
Mount: I only changed Disc and pads, nothing else from how it was before. The problem has been occurring before, but not as bad (1-2mm).
@edscoble: Will check. That would mean me riding it the wrong way around for two years though.
@Emyr: oh, err. I "think" I bought the right adapter 2 years ago. Will check.

Are the pads hanging over the outer edge of your disc? It could just be that your new disc has a slightly wider braking surface than the previous one. I've seen a few shimano setups where the entire pad is being used, but only about 80% of the disc surface.

The disc is the same model as before. So... unlikely.
The pads however have changed. I upgraded to a "better" 2quid more expensive version. I'll check where the disc sits and if it clears the upper edge of the pads.

Some pads will also have a chamfer on the bottom edge to help you get the disc in and out which will affect the contact area.
-
• #2486
This is actually the case. Pads are chamfered, so that should sort itself out as the pads wear.
Still I checked alignment etc. and found out, that the mount seems to be correct.
Still the pads overlap the top of the disc by 1-1.5mm
On the old pads one of them built a "lip" where the disc wore into them. Can't be that good?
Still - I know of no way to actually bring the caliper closer to the disc.

no washers you can remove to drop it a little?
-
• #2488
what are the FWE disc brake pads like? In particular the resin ones for TRP Spyres.
-
• #2489
Nope, all washers are on the outside. IS mount with PM adapter. There's no way I can drop anything there.

This thread is useless without pictures

Let's try this.

Get the file out.

My Cannondale has the same issue, partially sorted it by flipping the adaptor around, but it still doesn't sit perfectly
-
• #2494
File... but where?
-
• #2495
Either my mind is playing me tricks, ooor...
Well I think that wont solve the issue, as it would rotate the caliper further outwards?
-
• #2496
To me it looks like it would rotate it closer to the axle. But dunno
-
• #2497
I'd go for the easily replaceable adapter.
-
• #2498
Would have to check. It would certainly rotate the calipers body. Which then means that the pad sits at an angle to the disc, which can't be too good either.
@snottyotter and ruin the PM surfaces? Or bodge the IS interface? I'd rather not..

After googling the adapter it does look like it's upside down in comparison to other images on the Interwebz.

...no. looks right way up
Maybe check pad number /version again. Some shimano pads are smaller than others. What is the caliper model number?
could be 03 instead of 01?
Yup, eBay.
