Just got a tweet from my local comic book shop - it's closing down due to "recent changes in the economic climate." They focused on North American publications, so I guess that makes sense.
Where will I get my Archie and Howard the Ducks from?!?
Seriously though, fucking BS. They have a shop in Richmond, so I hope no one has lost any work because of this.

Comic book pricing was already a little screwed before BrExit started, prices where going up for the imprints, and larger chains were absorbing those costs, forcing smaller ones to do the same. The drop in the pound will have killed a number of those, and the larger stores will now grab this as the reason to increase their prices, and claw back that increase that they absorbed previously.
It's only going to get harder for good independents sadly.

Ack :(
Can they move to online only, saves the shop rent?

I suspect that the digitisation of print and the changing consumption models has more to do with it than pure Brexit.
-
• #5287
I'm not a comic book nerd, and subscriptions to digitized comics is a thing, but hard copy sales have gone up in recent years.
-
• #5288
no self respecting comic book dork would be caught dead reading a digital version of... anything.

Out of curiosity, is anyone here the bike importer guy who called AQ on R4 this weekend? I'm sure he'd been on pre-brexit as well.

"If you took migrant workers out of the supply chain you would within five days have no fresh British produce on the supermarket shelves," Mr Poskitt claimed.
