Tell me about it, no getting pissed on the job!

Cheers, happy with part 1
Always measure .1 short, official time 18.59
Our x country is on the driest course ever this afternoon. I'm wearing racing flats.
The parkrun covered same ground as xc, it is likewise pancake flat and dry & firm. Was in roclite 295's earlier, might switch to xtalon 190's for this afternoon but only them not trainers as they'll probably put us through the perpetually muddy trees for some gloop.
Hope all xc'ers have fun this arvo.

I'm still waiting to "click and collect" a pair of XTalon 190 from Argos that I ordered over a week ago. Bah! I'll be hitting the same course as @juanito in a pair of spikes, with the 4mm spikes I last wore on the track. I'd like to think my ankle is 99% recovered from a twist a few weeks ago but I may be taking the first long downhill fairly gingerly. #excusesinearly

18:51, having never raced a 5k my pacing strategy requires some refinement, and threw my plan of tracking my clubmate and seeing if I could hold on, out the window when a lady went past me after 1km, which was an error as she's clearly not a bad runner.

Schmedium was the biggest size I could get so perhaps I should be wearing this alone.

I'm normally a small and the large I have isn't exactly loose...

Nice one. Saw you splits on Strava. Raised eyebrow. Well done for not folding completely after the opening sprint!

XC was great. 3 laps just shy 2 miles per lap 50/50 open flat grass then twisty woodland singletrack, also flat.
Ran each lap progressively harder (apox 160bpm, 170bpm, 180bpm) and nailed it. Was flying past folks - who usually beat me - easily on the last lap.
Comedy Injury: Near end a took a corner tight, instead of tape to stake it was tape to dogshit bin (pictured). The collision hurt and I have nice graze to belly from the overhanging lid but wasn't slowed more than a step or two. First Aid gave me a saline wash to clean it up, followed by alcohol wipe. Advise for docs visit for Tetanus booster - overkill? Would be pretty crap to get poorly from it now I guess.
I'll be contacting league comittee asking they review use of fixed furniture to mark the course on fast 'racing' turns in future.
1hr on tired legs tomorrow, total today 14 of which 9 were z4-5 whilst whole year since March has been mostly z1-2.

XC and trails are definitely the best and it sounds like you paced it well :)
You ran past the big red bin twice then chanced your luck with a very tight line. Sorry it hurt but short of putting a dayglo vest on it, I cant think how better to tape the corner. Sure it could be post n taped into a gradual bend instead of a corner, but where is the fun in that when it turns into a track.

Impressive! Always nice when a race (and pacing) goes to plan :)

Yeah, cheers. The clubmates I was with on lap 1 finished upto 90 places / 3 mins back so I made up alot of ground over laps 2 & 3. Also chuffed to be an 'A' counter which is rare.

Yeah, appreciate I was the only twat what ran into it, in my defence at 180bpm vision is mostly tunnel, and blurry as I don't race xc in my glasses incase they get smashed up.
In all my recent occupational stuff we'd not route a go-ride racing course using fixed furniture as it's encouraging that risk of collision and parents would grumble. Maybe I should ask my Mum to grumble.
It wouldn't have took much effort to extend the tape line a couple of ft past and make it an even tighter turn - different racing line but less of a collision hazard, plus any collision = wonky plastic stake at most.

The last km was a bit off as I crossed the line at 4.9km according to my watch so while walking through the tunnel thing I waited for watch to hit 5k, but deffo poor pacing!

I also had my first XC round today. I'm getting faster!
Turned up with X Talons and a choice of track spikes or 18mm spikes. Was rock solid and I ended up in the X-Talons, could have done with road shoes frankly.

feeling better about being chicked yesterday, and probably should have tried to hang on her heals upon reflection!

Same at MACCL rd1 really. Felt for those running in spikes.

Beer promo was ace. All poured from cans, had to flip pour 2 at a time to keep up with demand. Time flew, appx 9000 runners through. Would do again.

Have a look at Saucony Xodus. Grippy vibram sole thats good offroad when wet or dry, plus deep cushioning like a road shoe.
I'll still get the x-tallons out when its more mud than wet.

I totally forgot that it gets dark earlier these days and headed out for a run - inevitability I got locked in Brockwell Park. In case anyone else is as stupid as me, there's a gap in the railings at Arlingford Road, just be careful not to step on the spikes in the railings as you can impale your trainers. As I found out.

Ouch!
Lots of XC fun going on, good stuff. Surrey League Div 1, match 1 yesterday started off as crazy as ever on a slight downhill first mile in Richmond Park. I clocked 5:19 for that mile despite taking it cautiously, then settled in when I felt more confident and made up about 30 places over the rest of the race (5.6 miles) to squeeze into our scoring team of 10, 58th place overall. (4th Vet-40.) Very short spikes was a good call as they felt more stable than racing flats to look after my delicate ankle.
A good endurance weekend all round, as I cycled 38 miles to get to the park and back (soaked to the bone on the way home), and a 20 mile long run with lots of Green Chain Walk off-road this morning.
