    Some people deal with trauma by repeating the experience. They do the same (or as close as possible to the same) thing again (and over again) that traumatised them in the hope that it'll seem normal and nothing to worry about. That generally doesn't work for very serious trauma, I think. It can also take a long time, sometimes years, for a person to fully realise the impact of a traumatic experience, if they ever do.

    I'm not saying any of that applies in this case, of which I have little knowledge beyond reading the secretbarrister link that MrDrem posted.
