  • Inspired by this thread, I dug out my old pentax. Took me a while to use a whole roll, mostly of my wee son, but a few arty attempts:

Tried out ag-photolab.co.uk and very happy with the service. The local snappy snaps quoted me £30+ and several weeks for one roll of hp5!

  • £30+ and several weeks for one roll of hp5

    lol wut

  • flippin' heck!
it's about a fiver and in an hour at my local (albeit that's now in Warsaw!)

lovely photos - shadows look great!

  • Lovely shots! I've been shooting a load of HP5+ and developing at home. Lovely stuff. Check out filmdev.co.uk for cheap dev and scan, they do a fantastic service.

  • Hp5+ pushed to 1600 and development at home in Ilford DDX. Scanned using my digital camera and enlarger.

These are from our trip to Cuil Bay, near Ballachulish.

  • Very nice tones.
    What is this shot on?

I haven't for a long time, but do consider shooting b&w again..
Fuck, Berlin these days.. all is monochrome anyhow!

  • It's a good thing you put the tripping hazard on the right side of the table, so when your kid runs in the apparatus won't knock over the glass of tea, which would then spill the lens that's missing its rear cap and doing some acrobatic balancing back there.

  • Seriously though - it's so cool to see you shooting so much film and evolve with your photography..

What is the light source of your scanning setup?

The first of the Cuil Bay shots looks pretty good, most other "scans" look a bit dull -lacking contrast / no real blacks..
..are these OOC or did you already edit them in some way?

  • Thanks Tina, the scanner setup is not kid friendly so is an evening time job only!

The light source for the scans is the enlarger light box.

In terms of scan processing, I invert the curve in LR (this makes all the controls invert so it gets a bit awkward after this stage!)

I think my scanning process using average metering and aperture mode on the camera might be killing the contrast somewhat.... Might re-edit these later with that in mind.

  • Ha, I see.

I guess I'd do the same - using aperture priority (*f*5.6 / *f*8) and average / center weighted metering.

  • LOVE the zebra sofa.

  • Seconded.

Also just programed a Photoshop action to invert and B+W convert the images of the negatives. Hopefully this will mean the controls work as expected in Lightroom.

  • Pentax SLR + HP5 is a great place to start. And they look great.

  • Sadly they don't touch auto-compacts.

  • Thanks all for comments. I have been lurking this thread for a while and lots of really nice shots by you all.

Really like the one of low cloud in the mounts, captivating quality.
