May be true, but if putting crankset under greater effort (bunny hoping, going down staircases, skidding like it's 2007, etc...) I have in the past started rounding off square taper crank arms (either installed, correctly I assume, by me, or even professionally installed) which is really annoying, meanwhile I never had problems with external systems and their splined connection... That said, I'm heavy (95kg) and it was not necessarily top quality cranks... Some good Shimano cranks have been ok on my old mtb for instance...
