Not sure if i'm imagining it, but is there any reason why square taper seems to prevail with functional/rando/gnarmac bikes? I see a lot of White Industries, Ritchey Logic and VO Grand Cru chainsets. Low Q factor?

my poor english, @spotter is bang on about my point but I think @user47432 is correct it's about chainset options.
I'll be quiet now as I should be working anyway! -

Lots of length option, and very reliable, Hollowtech BB are great as it is, but are suspectiable to wear if the BB shell isn't faced correctly.
I'd says that square taper are the least likely to be replaced base on my experiences servicing bicycles (the most were BB30, namely Cannondale).

@TheShipwright nothing wrong with your English, prob me and being a long day. Much appreciated!
@edscoble thought I was imagining it. Makes sense, just considering square taper Vs Hollowtech for a functional build and not sure if I'll put in the high mileage (realistically) to turn down the beefy feel of an external bb.

The whole ST vs HT2 has sweet FA to do with durability and a lot to do with Radavist Bingo points...
-
• #13217
With ST being the higher currency?
-
• #13219
Most of the problem are usually water getting into the BB, easily remedy by drilling a hole underneath the BB shell to allow water to exit.
Whichever option will work fine, both ST and HT are easily available anywhere.

• #13220
Yeah... Nope

• #13221
Square taper? Steel? Discs? Big tyres? Full guards? GBB paint job? Custom frame bag? Bar end shifter? Single ring?
RINGO
Nope... my new commuter.

They're "CST"
Cheng Shin have taken a leaf out of FSA's book and cooled up their shiz.
They roll ok and are surprisingly supple, my goal with this is to keep it as standard as possible. Aside from adding rack and swapping saddle post and pedals it is staying as is.

phew! xxx
At the risk of insulting you, maybe they don't make one that is compatible with that amount of gears.
