For sale: Cougar TT lo pro frame and fork

  • Lo pro Cougar for sale. In good condition, no dents or frame damage. Bought it off the original owner who said the tubing is Dedacciai Zero Uno, but there are no stickers to denote this. Nice clean welds. Sizing is a bit unusual as its made to have a lot of seatpost showing. Only two things to mention, the decals are starting to peel off, could be removed or stuck down again. And there is some paint chipping from removing the crown race

  • Lo pro???

  • Yep, still a lo pro. Unless I'm ill informed

  • Found this explanation on the webz. Not saying they're 100% but makes sense to me!

80's lo-pros (also known as funny bikes) had a top tube that sloped down from the seat post to the head tube, so the head tube is tiny. Ie if you are going to be very low you don't need a tall head tube to raise the handle bars if they are going to be set low.
This idea was taken to extremes by mounting the bars onto the crown of the forks (yuk!!?!?!) doing away with a stem altogether.

Common for this time too was the use of a 650 c wheel in the front, again to lower the profile of the nose end of the bike.

Roll on a decade or so and the low profile concept evolved. (I believe by this time small wheels were banned from competition). frames were built with a horizontal top tube, but were greatly undersized, again leaving you with a very short head tube. To make up for the huge amount of seat post on display people started exploring the idea of areo posts.

  • Hi there. Possibly interested in this but it looks like the dropouts are vertical - is this the case? (Would be wanting to switch over my ss components so need horiztontal/diagonal...)

    Cheers.
    Karen

  • Hey Karen. Vertical dropouts, I'd say only suitable for gears unless you already have some 'eccentric' components to help you adjust the chain tension without using the dropouts... Thanks!

  • Ach, that's a shame! Thanks for the speedy response. Hope it finds a good home soon.

  • It's only a problem if you're fixed- single speed freewheel and tensioner would be easy.

  • yeah i'm not fixed but would rather run without tensioner. thanks though!

  • No problem at all! Good luck with the search
