  • Great Eastern Run (aka Peterborough Half Marathon) coming up this Sunday so I did my standard pre-race Thursday tempo run on the track to get a feel for pace. Fitness has been off recently (more cycling than running, and a bit of illness) but coming back nicely now and I managed 4 miles at a quicker pace than my last parkrun, average 5:32 per mile, last mile 5:23. (11 miles total.) Anything close to that on Sunday would be nice. Anyone else racing?

  • Jaysus! 5:23? I get excited going below 7 per mile. I must try harder, no beer tonight

  • I'm racing! Off to the 6 stage tomorrow, a potentially embarrassing first leg for the B team.

    Good luck in Peterborough.

  • Happy racing folks. By comparison I hit a superquick 8.32 mile split on todays long run (ave 11.40min/mile) before my battery went at 26ish.

Chinley has a very nice chippy.

  • P.s. Taper time!

  • Wasn't a black cap saying 442 or NBRO by any chance?

either way it wasn't me but there's a good chance I know them if it was.

  • well yesterday was brutal. 3.6 miles of undulating tarmac in 19:36. I was 76/82 on the first leg and was dead last for the first half mile. shoe lace came undone with about two thirds of a mile to go and i tried to just run with it, that has never happened before.

Conditions seem pretty good today for whatever running people are doing.

Enjoy the taper @rhb don't let the madness get to you.

  • Ouch. Sounds tough day out, I'm not sure why but loose shoelaces are more annoying than they should be, that's why I (road)race with Locklaces.

Taper started with steady 10km headtorch run last night and woke up today with obligatory sniffle & sneezes.

Hope others are enjoying the float-day today, am off to buy Grapefruit and other sources if vit.c.

  • Ballot results for VLM are trickling out from today. Anyone have any news?

  • I can confirm that first leg in the national 6 stage road relays is about the most insane quality field you're likely to come across outside the Olympics. I was an almost identical 75th/87 back in 2009. Ugh. Good work!

74:41 for me yesterday at the Great Eastern Run half marathon. A season's best, but I faded again in the last three miles and lots of work to do before VMLM 2017 where I'll be hoping for a similar time at the halfway split. Still, we packed well, I had two club mates ahead of me so it appears as though we've won the team prize comfortably. MsPub had an absolute stormer, knocking a minute off her PB to finish in 75:13, 2nd woman overall and 1st British woman prize. Looking good for international debut at 50k in less than five weeks.

  • pretty pleased with my pace making at yesterdays Kingston Breakfast Run, I didn't know what pace or distance I was doing until 5 minutes before the start and my official time was bang on the 9 minute miles for 16.2 miles I was assigned.

  • Evil speed, good work! :)

  • haha hadn't noticed that, it was painfully slow at times and I had forgotten how long 2.5 hours of running is, I was mentally exhausted by the time I got home!

  • Think it was a PlanetX cap. He was part of a group of around 10, I guess.

  • Me me me!

  • Woop!! That's exciting!

  • Forgive me for I have sinned: thin merino gloves and beanie this morning.

    Commences Seppuku

  • ^ and the clocks haven't even changed yet... #whatwouldklsay

  • Keep seppuking

  • nice one. no magazine for me yet but i didn't get in.

if you applied and you haven't heard yet you can tell if you got in by clicking unsubscribe on any of the recent emails they sent and checking the list of mailing groups you are part of to see if the 2017 unsuccessful entry (or something like that) is one of them.

  • Relieved and dissapointed in equal parts. Looks like I'll be aiming for Reading half, sub 90 minutes ideally, and then Endure 24.

A long way to go to get to that point though, 5k today and I'm feeling it. This is why you shouldn't bother getting injured.

  • Ta.

    "VMLM 2017 unsuccessful notification"

Got a Brighton Marathon place already though, so happy with that. Will just do London whenever I do get a place in the ballot.

  • Good stuff, at least you have a target in mind. Have you entered Reading? I'll speak to Bex about coming up for a long weekend, or failing that is the invite to sleep on your floor still going?
