Spent 12 hours with Jeff in Matamp factory whilst he covered amp and cab in tolex. Got to play entire matamp range through their speaker wall.
Jeff was lovely, he said my playing reminded him of Hendrix (trolololol). What a man.
He also smoked like a chimney, was mental.

Have you flogged them all. @Zed? Great pics... If not, I'll take one of the minis when I'm next over! ;)
PS Band situation is hilarious, unfortunately I play in two other bands with the drummer so I'm planning an exit strategy from those as well... Bandless!?!

This was mine. Sold it On Here actually. Our guitarist had a green one, and our bassist had a 200w green bass head. Absolutely monstrous. We used to use this old Orange cabinet, our stage setup looked like a set of traffic lights.

Pure Matamp porn that. Been tempted so many times.......
How much is a minimat nowadays?

Floyd Landis helped me buy a Minimat...
I paid £850 for my minimat head and cab back in 2006.
My king street cost me £750 full custom with built in attenuator.
Have no idea what they cost now.

I'm about to hit the Order button for black complete hardware for my MIM Strat.
Am I about to commit a big mistake or should I go for it? I already changed pickups and guard, but now I don't know if I'm going a step too far...Current state:

Plus, anyone knows if the larger MXR/Dunlop knobs will fit on Stratocaster pots? Any known clearance issues?
-
• #4363
I say keep it as it is in the pic right now. If I had a strat, I'd have one like that.

Chrome to black?
Hell no
Just get a 1980's Charvel with pointy headstock and some spandex
-
• #4365
The idea was in fact to make it look like something from 80-90s...
Something on these lines:
Not sure about the spandex tho.
Well I guess I need to think twice!

If you can be a bit flexible about what you want, you can get some good deals - or at least you used to be able to.
We got two 100w heads, a 4x12 cab, and a 200w bass head for about £2000 all in. Thank you rich support band.

Well, a minimat is the amp - the tolex and such isn't too much of a concern to me. Bit bored of my tweed, so considering a change up in the sound.
Wonder if its worth just swapping the speaker and tubes perhaps, rather than a new amp?
-
• #4368
That seems more sensible to me - when I talked about being flexible it was in terms of the design, we ended up getting two prototypes and feeding back on the positive / negatives of the amp itself. You can get lucky with prototypes or they can spend half their time in the shop. If you like the tweed then it's worth fiddling with it a bit. I love mucking about with tubes on an already lovely amp.

100% black hardware!
but then all my instruments have black hardware, so maybe I'm not the right person to ask...

I changed my white Tokai Strat from black to white hardware the moment I got it, looks 1000% better in my opinion... I'm well boring when it comes to guitars tho', we're a conservative bunch, no?
-
• #4371
White hardware? Do you have any pictures of your Tokai?
-
• #4372
I mean scratchplate/pickup covers and knobs, not the actual hardware... My bad...

• #4373
But here it is anyway...

Got it, I don't know why but seems like black hardware is mostly used on off-the-peg Squier strats, maybe that dictated the general taste on Strats?
Still thinking about it anyway, the only concern is if the black coating is durable enough (saddles, input...) -

If you buy quality and not any old shite on eBay.
Nice start Jose.
