Well obviously, for the reasons already given...
But, in my experience, most breed-specific rehoming charities will take cross-breeds of the breed they deal with, because the dog will have a better chance of finding a home through them than through a general rehoming centre. In this case, whilst the dog may be a "mongrel", it is an Akita cross-breed and so could potentially be rehomed more quickly through an Akita rehoming charity.
The other thing charities will almost always do, if they can't home take them in and home them temporarily, is at least publicise dogs of the breed they deal with (or crosses) that are available for rehoming. Which is why I think they've been pretty crappy in this instance.
Anyway, let's hope someone will be interested in this boy.

Unfortunately the fashion for these dogs over recent years, and people buying them and not being prepared for what they get, means there are lots that need rehoming
