Perhaps, I just think demanding exclusivity is a good way of coming across as somewhat insular despite its perceived benefits and those on the inside feeling satisfied.
Thing is... you're going to sell the bike and wheels. They're great, good stuff always sells. Be it via eBay, Facebook, TTF, BikeRadar... they'll sell.
So you're not gaining anything from it being on here, and nor are we (community, the collective mass of anarchic cyclists on here). Because we really do visit lots of other sites (though as a theme we are anti-Facebook, it's that anarchic quality shining through).
The rule wasn't really created by the community with great bikes in mind... because that stuff is super rare.
The rule was really created with the mass of adverts of really average stuff, and given that we are a fixed and single-speed forum but with a pervy attitude towards other niche bikes... those run-of-the-mill hybrids and MTBs really have no place on here.
The hard bit: We've got this perfectly good rule, that insulates us from all the crap, but occasionally means that an advert for a really nice bike has to be removed too.
But that's where I step in and basically tell the community... this is the rule you wanted, and I'm not going to stray into the minefield of subjective stuff ("is this a nice enough bike to keep, even though we'd normally call it spam because it's a cross-post?"). So I enforce unambiguously, consistently. Even for the nice bikes.
Our loss, and to some extent your loss. But the greater gain of a vibrant forum that doesn't have all that other crap and spam. Huge win. Totally surpasses the loss of a few good sellers and a few really nice bikes.
Very well put indeed, for the greater good (hoods, round table and torch light from below, etc.). However, the bike's been advertised for almost a month and is not at what I believe (perhaps wrongly) to be an excellent price, yet it is still here.
