  • Steinhart Nav-B 44, exactly the watch I'm looking for. But I do wish they did a 36.

  • The more I look at it the more I like the Sinn 556

  • Agreed, however i go back and forth as to if i like it with the numerals or not

  • I've got a 556 without numerals and I love it.

Sadly it's not keeping good time after only a few months of ownership. Must get round to contacting page and cooper about that.

  • Sounds ready for the bin. I'll dispose of it for you if you want.

  • Here it is

  • right, not getting that then...

  • Is it me or does that look massive?!

  • That is so nice!

Date window is much better there

  • Timefactors do decent ones, as do Watchobsession.

I found the Watchgecko ones reasonable but very long.

  • Perspective...

Its fairly large, but its the size i like at 44mm.

  • I've been having a look around. Anyone have an opinion on Alpina watches?
I like the look of this one:

  • like the blue faced one.

  • The date puts me off.
And the nutsack on the end of the seconds hand. (although this is only on the bottom pic)
And where the hour numerals are cut out for the sub dial.
    Out.

  • Made some emails and phone calls about getting the acrylic crystal replaced on my Rolex Datejust.
Got quotes ranging from £50 -£500. The cheaper options require sending it out which I'm not too comfortable with, so tomorrow I'll head to Hatton Gardens to get some quotes from jewellers.
I did contact thewatchguy who quoted me £46 and broke down the costs to £8 for the acrylic crystal and £3 for a case back gasket. Its quite ridiculous that some repairers I've contacted, charge £150-£200 for the replacement and labour (not including service). So now I'll see what Hatton Gardens has to offer.

  • Hey hive-mind.. what are the interesting, new handwinders out there? I've come across the speedy and grand seiko, but both are out of my price range

  • Ask Alsal if Clerkewell isn't any good. There's two watch repairers on Clerkenwell Road.

  • I was just about to send a snarky email to Page & Cooper about my Sinn 556i running ~2 mins fast per day.

Just before I hit send I thought I'd pass it through my demagnetiser. It is running perfectly now. Amplitude has gone from 240 degrees to 280 and it appears to be running + 8 secs which is fine by me.

I reckon the speaker on my mobile might have got close to it.

  • That seems to be the stick used to beat on the 556, great aesthetics but none of the Sinn innovations including the Magnetic Field Protection. They quote 60% of the watches they have in for service are magnetised, 30% severe enough to effect the running. Sounds like your bit of kit has paid for itself!

  • You can buy a degausser for £5 on eBay from China. Worked a charm on my Smiths Everest after it suddenly started running 10mins/day fast. Cheaper than taking it to a jewellers.

  • I think mine was £12. £12 well spent.

  • Yes. It was very good.

Talking of TV programs, did anyone watch Sir Chris Hoy doing Le Mans on BBC2 earlier this evening? Worth the watch. I noticed he wears a Panerai. Which I thought was interesting considering how much stick they get in this track bike riders watch forum.

  • I need a childrens watch for a 6 year old that can give several preset alarms during the day.
Digital or analog. Don't feel like braking the bank, but a bit of style wouldn't go amiss.
    Anybody know one?
