  • But if any discussion about immigration is shouted down then these things don't come to light.

    But is it?

Everyone says; "your can't talk about immigration without being called racist". But that doesn't ring true to me.

People have been talking about Australian points based systems for years. Equally the shambles of our immigration policy always gets discussed.

What exactly is off topic? Criticism of the right wing press when it uses loaded language and print negative stories? Of course that gets pulled up by non-racists.

As far as I can see the real "issue" with our immigration system is its convoluted nature and failure of implementation. How many foreign nationals do we have? We don't know. How often are people who exploit foreign works prosecuted and how much time/budget is devoted tackling them?

What's the net cost of it all and does it pale into insignificance relative to real government-size numbers like the cost of the NHS, Pensions and the amount of dodged tax the Inland Revenue fails to pursue?

  • The short answer is yes.

I think one of the things DM-types don't understand about Guardianistas, is that they aren't in favour of uncontrolled immigration, benefit abuse, etc.

They just recognise that you will always have a small number of people gaming the system, but this is nothing compared to numerous other pieces of wasted expenditure.
