  • niner rlt

There is one of these in my LBS...I'm trying to ignore it but it is very nice.

  • 3T Exploro?

  • I guess the aluminum RLT has the same clearances. if given a choise between niner steel and niner alu I would choose the alu any day :)

  • Foots Cray...Oooof! Damn that's more food for thought, and goes on the list.

    So it's...

Foots Cray - epseically that RMB model - need to confirm specs, and whether I'll be able to get a frame fit that will abide my pretty upright normal posture. The dream frame is Ti due to its bombproofness, so if not Ti, would Alu be better than Crabon?

One One Bish Bash Bosh - Tbh it's so cheap £610 (and fits the spec so damn perfectly), though the colours decals are a bit of an acquired taste...I might buy it and instantly respray it - was thinking Camo or Snow Camo

Mason Bokeh - Release date issues?

Open UP, and that 3T thing (FFS!) - Disregarded tbh through expense vs not being perfect fit in specs)

Trail Donket 2.0 - looks damn fine, though if I was going to spend that much I might as well go full Ti?... http://www.rodeo-labs.com/td2/

(Specs - will do a full build thread if CBA, though most of the info gathering sits better in this thread at the mo...)

Bomb proof road bike (that's less a tank wrt to weight/handling) and can have 3 wheelsets - 700/28mm wets (with mudguards), 700/35 (or even 40 mm) Schwalebe G-Ones, 650b/2.1 Racing Ralphs, for Paris Roubaix sportive, towpaths, and the odd off road adventure.

Internal everything cabling (even forks). Will be running Ultegra Di2 (I appreciate these aren't typical specs for a bike demanding bombproofness, though, well, I want it!).

27.2 round seatpost so I can put a Ergon CF3 in it (obvs it's not armageddon to have 31.8 and use a shim, though Aero seatposts can >>>>>)

I think that's pretty much it for the must-haves?!

  • Here's my gravel/road/off road/anything else bike.

Dan_W, it fits your specs pretty well apart from the internal cabling but I've heard of a few people drilling the frame to run cables internally.

  • Ha, I think you summed it up pretty good. I'm leaning towards the Mason. Thinking it can replace pretty much every bike I own. Randonneuring, bikepacking and commuting are my main objectives at this point. Think I read on their Instagram that they are aiming to release it in september. The Bish Bash is really cheap though. Down to £377 now!? Antrachite looks ok. Have you considered PX titanium?

  • Check out alpkit's new bikes:

I've just ordered one of these on cycle to work scheme

  • Wow but that's bargainous. Not a staggering amount more than I spent getting my own tourer together when you take cycle to work into account...

  • People who think there isn't any gravel in the UK don't know what they're missing ¯(ツ)/¯ there is fucking loads and it's great.

This is what I'm noticing too.

Looking at the maps of the Pyrenees, there are some great road, but if you look in Google Earth, you can able to see several dirt road going higher up the mountains.

The ratios look like for every decent road, there's 7 gravel road within the vicinity.

    I'm now tempted to sell my carbon disc bike I have converted to 650b 38mm for this Specialized Sequoia, the gearing is perfect, 48/32t chainset with a 11-36t cassette;

Best part is that with the 650b wheelset, you can fit 2.0 tyres on it.

  • Been exploring some awesome gravel paths out here in Crete. Don't even have a gravel bike! Hed Belgium+ and Corsa G+ 28's at 70psi have done great so far tho!

Looking forward to getting a proper gravel rig and doing more of it soon.

  • Whats the full carbon gravel fork of choice right now?

Must have thru axle, flat mount compatible, and mudguard mounts.

  • I'm liking this Niner one< although it does look a bit overkill, and i cant figure out if it would look awful with a mudguard attached...

  • I bought the TRP CX one, looks nice, though not actually on a bike yet.

  • those are not flat mount ..

  • Oh shit.
    I did not spot that.

  • these are on the radar. 40mm max clearance seemed a bit small tho?
What does 700c + 40mm tyre equate to in max 650b tyre size?

  • Is post mount simply no good for instagram, or does it actually make buying the latest groupsets a hassle?

Genuine question, as I haven't bought a groupset since Ultegra 9spd.

  • I've only gone flatmount as thats what my groupset came with.

  • Not something I'm massively fussed about. should be plenty for me. I've got the 29er for big tired fun.

  • shimano has chosen flat mount which means anything else needs to and will die, disc is a 'future proofing' game. Both sram and campag are going full out on flat mount too.

It is a good standard. Tiny, thought for road rather than applying MTB designs, great for mudguard stay clearance.

@hoops the only forks I can think of are the ones that came with my Chyna bike ..

  • I've only been paying attention to the many varied and 'exciting' new standards in the mtb world.

140mm discs are a bit off my radar too..

  • I have already predicted the next 'standard' in road with the launch of DA 9100 ..

    Direct mount deraileurs!

    Wanna place bets?

  • Googling Dura-Ace 9100 gave me this...

  • ^ Road 'boost' 175.6mm OLD standard.

  • Can you get flatmount to postmount adapters? This disc brake business is a whole new world of WTF for me.

The Enve GRD fork fits the bill, but dealing with Saddleback is proving more challenging than normal at the moment. And its expensive, even at trade.
