• You rode a hardtail at Revo? Well done. I wouldn't entertain the prospect myself.
What hardtail was it? And what was your favourite trail, section, etc?

  • Kona Taro 29er, 140mm Revelations up front. There's a pic upthread somewhere. Glad I swapped out the Ardents though, now running a Magic Mary/Mountain King II combo.

I rode pretty much everything (apart from walking/slithering down the big drop off on the pro line). Fave bits were the top section of Freeride, pretty much all of the pro line, and the L1/Mainline routes after the first fire road.
Having looked at a few videos, I was pretty confident I could ride most stuff there, my main concern was that I'd get loads of faster riders zooming up behind me. On the day though, the trails were pretty quiet (as generally you'll only have ~20 riders at the top of the hill at any one time, and there are plenty of lines to choose from). Plenty of chat from the uplift drivers and other riders about being the only hardtail there, a nice mix of encouragement and "Wow, you're brave/weird!".

  • Nice one. I thought about riding my Stanton there but then thought better of it. Lots of nice big holes to swallow up the 26" wheels. And the thought of getting hooked up on the steep sections on a hardtail put me off. I hired a Saracen Myst in the end, my first time on a downhill rig and that was excellent.

I might go back sometime with the Stanton, maybe...

Really I think Revs is best done on a long travel all-mountain or a downhill bike, but kudos for doing it on the hardtail.
