Even if you look at new Compass tyres they have the cross pattern visible...
Jan's point (in response to this article) is that the sealant only leaks through the walls when inflated too low and that's damaged the threads. Having run them tubeless I'd disagree with Jan and say the sidewalls are too light and porous and will leak regardless of pressure and trying a different sealant might be a better option.
