  • Bulleit is a nice one, occasionally on sale for well under £25. Bulleit Rye is good too, although for an ok-ish rye it's a bit steep getting close to £40. Rittenhouse Rye 100 proof is also great, but you need to get this one http://www.drinksupermarket.com/rittenhouse-rye-100-proof-bottled-in-bond-straight-rye-whiskey-70cl-50-abv?gclid=CNWHid3itM8CFZG6GwodJAwGTA and not the straight 100, which is fucking killer for old-fashioneds but a bit ragged for drinking straight.

  • ^ this

    Bulleit Rye is well nice

I bought the Rittenhouse 80 proof without realising the 100 is the one - only good for cocktails

  • Albeit really good cocktails ;)

  • Didn't mean to write a reply...

  • Anybody in the market for a bottle of pappy 15?
Can't bring myself to open it as can't currently justify having that much money tied up in a bottle of booze (even if it is the nicest thing I've ever tasted).

  • I'm a bit of a novice, what's the difference with Rye US whiskey?

  • The grain mix (mostly rye, rather than mostly corn for Bourbon). Rye whiskey tends to have a thinner, drier taste. Otherwise, the laws governing the production of both in the U.S. are more or less the same.

Try some of both and decide what the difference is to you.

  • Rye is a bit spicier

  • Ah ok. Thank you, that's actually really helpful.

Maybe some Rye might be a nice idea.

  • Leaving gift from work was a 14 year Springbank Longrow (2002), one of 150 from Cadenhead's. Smells delish.

  • Nice.
*Adds to list of reasons to leave job.

  • I'm a massive fan of Bulleit, it used to be the house bourbon in the Crowbar, got given a bottle of their rye last Xmas and it was great... makes a good old fashioned... had some Rittenhouse rye as well but it was a while ago so I can't really judge the two together. Has anyone tried Few rye before... steep at around £50 a bottle mind

  • Got some Few on the go - not that impressed TBH

  • I've got a bottle of Few Bourbon, it's very very strong at the expense of flavour.

  • add a few drops of bitters, some sugar and serve over ice with a maraschino

  • Speaking of rye in the Cocktail thread, have you tried the Woodford's rye offering, @Aroogah ?

  • Hmmm, might not bother then, if I'm going to make an old Fashioned, I'd rather go with something a tad less expensive hence why I though Bulleit was perfect

  • No. Been pretty preoccupied by Makers Mark lately. I have a love / hate relationship. I am currently digging the cherry overtones and it makes me want to drink manhattans (vermouth, soz). I'll eventually get annoyed by the slight hint of top end ethanol that I can normally ignore.

  • Woodford Reserve or Maker's Mark for old fashioneds.

  • Balvenie 14 year Caribbean cask - got a bottle for my birthday, hoping it's a decent drop

  • It's good. I like the rum finish.

  • Got a bottle of knob creek. My gf bought me from Colorado. Initially rough, rum and vanilla. Second shot more mellow

  • Makers & Coke is my go-to 'bar that's too knobby to serve decent beers so I have to drink mixers or cocktails' drink. I had a bottle at home but found it too sharp to drink neat much.

  • Woodford Reserve £22 - Ocado.
    go go go!

If you're not on there I'd happily refer you for a share in £40 vouchers (£20/£20)!

  • ordered, also glenmorangie and laphroaig

They are on offer till 3rd Jan so just edited my 23rd december order :D
