  • On Monday I had one on either side of the road heading north over Southwark Bridge toward me as I headed south. Didn't really enjoy that experience.

(I also (later) phoned 101 on someone who got a bit shouty; he had previous shouty incidents on file and has been summoned to the station for a little chat. Justice/10)

  • Did one job in Shoreditch, carried on up Old St to head to Oxford Circus before getting a nail in the back tyre and walking 45 minutes. FML.

  • argument with car driver about a one way street. On closer inspection it is one way if you approach from one end and two way if you approach from the other. Go figure. Let's hope it gets resolved in my favour by the powers that be, it's useful.

  • The van driver behind us who beeped and shouted at him "i got that on film, mate" shut him up a bit. Actually really helped my nerves, too, having just been nearly barged off the road and then shouted at.

  • Accidentally hopped onto the A1055 this morning. Was as described, and I quickly scrambled back onto Hertford Road. Definitely quicker than the river, but also less actual cycling and more sitting at lights. Good luck on Monday. You'll be simultaneously svelte and muscular in no time.

  • Walking combined with Belfast Bikes commute today: It's nice to walk, I notice my surroundings more compared to cycling/the sewing machine on wheels.

The Belfast Bikes are great fun every time I go on one, no wonder people smile. Reporting a water leak and issue with cycle lane signs
    good deeds 10/10 ;)

  • The tiny town I live in on the Olympic Peninsula is the tip of a peninsula on another peninsula.
I blame this for the insane number of deer we just have wondering about all over the place.
Yesterday, on the high street, a mom and three babies started to cross the road.
Downtown its never the deer that are the problem, it's the tourists trying to protect the deer, and sure enough, a lady throws on her hazards, leaps out of the car, and stops traffic worn her arms out while yelling words of encouragement to her precious deer.
5 minutes later and they are still just sort of thinking of crossing the high street.
Normally you just keep going when you see them, and slow down a bit if they do start crossing. They figure it out and are pretty quick.
I ended up riding up a massive hill just to avoid the queen animal saver.

  • Olympic peninsula in Washington state? I am envious if yes.

  • Hey, I'm just I'm the middle of booking a cabin there as part of a west coast road trip we're doing in April. Might have to PM you for tips on where to go and what to see.

  • Oh yes please. I'd love to take you mtbing etc.

  • Yep! Port Townsend Washington

  • saw two people brklzz and retentionlzzzz on my way home today. Not coaster, definitely fixed, definitely don't know how they've not had some kind of natural selection moment yet.
Other than that, since falling off completely of my own accord and hurting myself the worst i've hurt myself in a while (about a month ago), I really don't enjoy traffic anymore. Traffic-free commute plz.

  • So envious. We did a road trip from Seattle through Cascades then to Oregon, back up the coast and culminating in Olympic Peninsula last year. Juan de Fuca islands and the Ho rainforest were particular highlights, but we also had the best breakfast ever somewhere near Sequim. I would love to live there.

  • It's pretty good. I coach the middle school mtb team, go mushroom hunting, and live a block from the beach.

  • Haha thanks, I'll need all the luck I can get, if all goes to plan my weekly mileage will be increasing from around 100 to about 280...

And yes, all the lights on the old A10 are a shame, also the road surface isn't great and there's not much in the way of bike lanes or separation from traffic until you hit the bus lanes inside the north circular (if I remember correctly).

How did you find the river route? How much slower was it? Would it be do-able on a roadie with 28c tyres? Are there a lot of other people/cyclists/dogs etc using it?

  • Wet manhole covers in the dark this morning.

I did lean as it was a corner at speed........... roll on the ice and snow

  • There appeared to be a tipper truck race.

They fucking love it on the highway. I heard they're paid by the drop but not sure if true. Fun to draft them, especially when they're changing lanes all the time to ditch people turning at junctions.

  • Colder than expected.

  • Much.

    Very brrr

  • Fucking beautiful weather, thank god summer's finally over.

Now get some fucking lights on your bieks you clueless cunts (at all the dayglo warriors with no lights)....

  • The chaos at London Bridge has started (or just gotten worse??). It was messy going northbound this morning.

  • First weekday with Tower Bridge shut and everyone diverted Northbound on London Bridge i think? 3 months of this... going to try and hit it earlier than usual now

  • Did my first commute from Herts - ended up being 27.8 miles :)

I looked at the weather forecast and went with summer kit with a buff. Arms, hands and feet were freezing most of the way in. My front mudguard was somehow being scraped by the tyre with every revolution. Stopped a few times to try to adjust it, made no difference. Was completely enraged by the scraping by the time I got to work.

I need the quickest route between the Oxford Circus end of Regents Park and Victoria. So many lights, so slow.

Also, moving time was 1hr 41mins, but elapsed time was 1hr 55, so there's definitely room for improvement if I leave a bit earlier and have to do less filtering.

Go straight down RS to Pic. Then get yourself onto the Mall and keep going from there.
I often roll right down Regents without a single red light around 8:30.
