  • Connemara is peaty, cheap, and Irish. Peat Monster is awful, imo.

Edit: I don't advocate spending £30 on Connemara when Green Spot is available for £5 more, but for the peatiness.

  • Agree with those recommending Ardbeg Uigeadail and Lagavulin 16. I'd also highly recommend Kilchoman Machir Bay for a peaty beast.

  • hey, flying back to US soon via Amsterdam. Any suggestions for a good bottle to pick up in airport ? All I know is US prices tend to be a bit scary compared to UK.

    60 quid sorta range

  • Thanks for the help chaps. I went for Buffalo Trace in the end.

    Sláinte mhath!

  • Making up for the shame of picklebacks today with a couple of tours and tasting sessions....

  • ...and a few more today.

So far I've been to Bowmore, Bruichladich, Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroag, Kilchoman and Port Ellen.

I missed out on Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila and Port Askaig unfortunately due to time constraints.

  • @Kirth https://mobile.twitter.com/exquisitesh they have a great selection of rum too.

Generous on the tasting front too.

  • fuck right off!! So jelly. These Islay distilleries share a visual aesthetic too!

  • They're wonderful.

A lot of the older buildings on the island are similar - whitewashed stone with black -so there are whole villages that are in keeping with it.

  • I bought this 12 years ago for my Dad, a 60th birthday present.
    1798 Mission Glenturret.
    Sadly, he never opened it.
I'm getting married on Saturday, his best friend will be there, seems appropriate.

  • Slight typo on the year there...

  • Nice sentiment, congratulations on your wedding.

  • So, the bourbon mission; 'improve palate' continues. Down so far are bottles of:
    Buffalo Trace
    Four Roses
    Makers 46

What else should I be drinking?

  • Balcones. Seriously, get some Balcones, it's good.

  • Yup Balcones is a winner

  • tried Few Bourbon - meh

Evan Williams Single Barrel is nice

High West Double Rye and Redemption Rye both lush

    Is Tin Cup any good?

  • Balcones it is. Thanks to the hive mind!

  • oof check the reviews for that Balcones.........doesn't seem very well liked

  • Eagle Rare 10

  • Eagle Rare 17 is better. Bit dear though.

  • Rock Town.
