Also nice bowls of veg at Cook Daily in Boxpark although perhaps a bit steep for street food at £9 a pop.

I just discovered that the Ecover washing up liquid I buy has whey in it. Grrr more ingredient labels to read.

Aldi has a range of eco vegan washing up stuff. It's a one off, so if it's in your local shop stock pile on it.

Check out BioD products. pretty sure their washing up liquid isn't part milk

I know! I'm pretty new to this, it's a pain in the arse sometimes. Got caught out by Marmite cashews the other day.

Those sneaky marmite bastards

• #3112
Not to mention it's produced by Unilever now, who test on animals...

Yeah get meridian yeast extract instead of actual marmite. They make lots of nice nut spreads too.

• #3114
Didn't know that. Thanks for heads up.

Great oil free / low fat / Jersey pocket friendly banana bread recipe.

Does anyone have any ideas for tempeh recipes? Nothing too complicated and ideally healthyish!

@pit if you're happy to venture a bit further east to Walthamstow, or as I like to call it 'upper hackney' there's also the Hornbeam Cafe they do a great vegan fry up with decent tofu scramble on weekends. Could pop in there if you're on a jolly up the Lee Valley canal or off to Gods own junkyard on a weekend or something.

'upper hackney'
Pffft, it's clearly East Clapton.

also, Dark Arts Coffee/I Will Kill Again (Ponsford St, Hackney/Homerton) do AMAZING vegan brunch at the weekends, and burritos on a Friday.

Any advice on toiletries? After reading about the Ecover stuff, I realise I should probably consider my whole bathroom too.

You could get the Little Book of Cruelty-free, published by Cruelty-free International (formerly the BUAV, another bland charity re-branding):

Lush
I like the company, but don't like the overkill scent of most of their products.
Would definitely buy more of their stuff if there were some restrained options.
Also quite pricey..
Dunno if a comperhensive list exists but I'm bored at work so I recommend all of these:
Black Cat Cafe, Hackney Central: All vegan, burgers, curries, salads etc.
Fed by Water, Dalston: All vegan, pizzas and other Italian stuff.
Voodoo Rays, Dalston/Shoreditch: Giant pizza by the slice or the whole 22" shebang, v.good.
The Gallery Cafe, Bethnal Green: Lots of options, they do theme nights too so check the website.
Cook Daily, Shoreditch Box Park: Veggie salad bowls with a cult following.
Vegan Doner Kebap , Pump street food in the old petrol station Shoreditch: Vegan kebab!
