  • r_mash, sorry, you're probably going to get loads of conflicting advice, it's just quite fun to speculatively spec out a bike.

  • thanks - prices about the same as wiggle! (if google currency converter is right)

  • Forgot about brexit tax on wiggle, came out €435 for me. lol

  • WHaT COLUOR BAR TAPE U GETIN M8?

  • I like the speculation so far :)

  • I'd say if you have £350 to spend on wheels and you're not going to be riding this day-in day-out, get 2nd hand carbon. Alu wheels can never hope to be as good.

Also +1 to China carbon post and Kalloy/Hylix stem. Zipp SL70 bars are also nice for diminutive people

  • There's no point in buying a Chinese carbon seatpost which may crack when decent alu and even decent carbon ones can be had for pretty cheap.

  • looks like the ritchey for the same reach is 50g heavier:

  • Wheels are a minefield.

Anyone had any experience with Cosine?

  • Get R24s from RCZ, 160eur. Well worth it.

  • Kalloy stems are good but stay away from Hylix!

  • Have had a Hylix alloy stem on my road bike for a couple of years. It's the same as the Kalloy, just gloss black rather than matt anodised

  • Maybe I had a bad batch but my ebay Hylix stem came with a bolt which immediately stripped the first time tightening. Also the black color wore of after a few rides in the rain turning into a brass like color. Not gonna buy one again for sure

  • Frame arrived :)

  • What size? My custom painted Road Logic full build is for sale (although i still havent got round to actually advertising it!) Built with Ultegra 6800 and 3T accelero pro wheels (not the Hed wheels pictured):

  • Ah.... just seen you've already bought the frame!
    Sorry, ignore me.

  • Pm'd you anyways!

  • I'm a girl of average height :)

  • Campagnolo vs Shimano? (I'm sure something that's been covered to death in various contexts)

I love my campy on my 90s Olmo. But Campy is pricey when I could just go with an Ultregra for less.

    What do people advise?

  • Get Ultegra or 105

  • It's personal preference. They both work equally well. I think Campag looks and feels better, but I'm not sure it's worth nearly twice the price. If you haven't ridden a bike with modern Shimano it may be worth trying it out on someone else's bike first as the Shimano brake hoods can be too big for people with small hands, making it hard to brake or shift.

  • SRAM Rival/Force 22? SRAM gives you another hood shape option, and definitely a different feel to gear changing that is worth trying out IMO. I really like mine.

  • Personally I don't like using the brake lever to shift on the shimano, it feels a bit odd but it is handy when shifting down while braking. I personally prefer SRAM and don't like campag at all. The little thumb levers are in the wrong place and I can't reach back to them when on the hoods but if you've got little hands that may not be a problem. SRAM is simple, one lever for everything. Push it to change up, push it further to change down. Hood shape is nice I find too.
105 and ultegra are hard to beat for value though. SRAM rival can be had at a good price too.

  • Etap or nothing
