is it in london? think london tax also.
i would estimate 60/65k+
weird house, can't imagine how that works inside without two dormas. is the top floor even a room without a dorma? -
• #15878
Yep thanks I will continue saving. London N7. I've seen lots of this extension being done, at least 5 within a few blocks radius of me.
House is ground floor, large area, first floor smaller area, *second floor smaller.
Hard to explain so here is a grim looking pic of a place side on.*edit, don't know why I wrote third!

Looking at the next door house, seems like it's over two floors with a very long, sloping roof and velux windows on each floor.
Edit: Shit, just seen the perfect explanation mands gave.

Just knock on the door and tell them you're thinking of doing the same - even odds they'll tell you what they paid, who did the work, and invite you in for a look.

Where did the second floor go?
-
• #15882
agree. when i had my loft conversion done i walked around the whole neighbourhood knocking on doors. a lot of them were tenants unfortunately but those that were owner occupiers were more than happy to offer up advice and give rough costings. never ventured nothing gained and all that. then i got about 8 guys to quote.

I am a tenant but I can tell you exactly how much each repair / imporvement has cost over the last decade since I have been here - I pay and landlady pays me back. I quite like it, now that I have a phone full of useful contacts, I don't ever go for the cheapest... :-P

But then I'd have to ** talk** to the neighbours!
Yeah I will do, actually went around to the front and got the builder details off the board they have erected. But £50k+ though to save first :(

It's also worth going on the planning section of the council website so you can half inch the plans.

@apone don't they have to start paying you penalty dailies if they haven't vacated? And don't you get your deposit back or something?
-
• #15888
Aye, or demand some rent!

• #15889
@Tenderloin did you go and see the million pound house? Offer down?
-

Nah spent the weekend looking round design fairs at Truman brewery and Granary square. Looking during the week.

We have a garage with no power running to it. It's approx 6m from the house - How much am I looking at for someone to extend the power? It'll only be required for some lighting and a couple of power sockets. Just a ballpark figure really - No idea if I'm looking at a couple of hundred, or a lot more.
edit - This wasn't supposed to be a reply to Aroogah.....

Potentially welcome to the neighbourhood!

BOOM I love it

Which is exactly what previous owner has done here but they had the decency to feed it through copper piping and rivet it to the ground in a madly dangerous zig zag across the garden feeding, variously, a faux victorian streetlight, 2 water features and a shed.
