  • Slow project, looking for DA shifters, front and rear mechs and yellow corima decals. First time I've built my own roadie so enjoying the learning curve and i think this 1997 r300 is a good cousin to my ctrack.

  • definitely one of my favourite forum bike!

  • Awesome build !

  • Ive been lurking for a while, since dusting off my bike from several years of hibernation whilst I defected to running and then running marathons and ultras.

I'd always found it too long, and usually ended up with lower back ache on longer rides so it was very low milage when I gave up riding. The layback post has been replaced with an inline and new bars with a shorter reach and less drop compared to the originals. Plus a 90mm stem replaced the 100mm, so its way shorter than standard. 45 miles the other day, wishing I'd swapped the bits years ago, as tops, hoods and drops are all usable now without any back pain.

Ive a pair of Shimano 600 cranks to put on, so hopefully end up with the chainring on the outside position. Unlike the heavy FSA cranks which won't allow a working chain line except on the inner position.

The original wheels have a poor join in the brake track, plus they are rather heavy... with a 16T sprocket and freewheel fitted, plus 23mm GP4000 tyres they weigh 3093g. Being as I was looking at a 30-40mm deep rim to go on my tri bike for windy days, ive decided to build a set for this and nick the front when needed.
New Ridea hubs have already arrived and DT 511 rims are in the post, so some wheel building to be done. High flange fixed/fixed rear and a front road hub. The DT Swiss spoke calculator estimates a wheel weight of 713g front 880g rear, which should be a reasonable weight saving.

  • unpacked the tommasini , seems big, roadie proportions almost with 26" wheels , may use drop bars

  • On my new plug I've got serious front brake and wheel judder? I've set the straddle hight higher and it's still horrible under hard braking...

I'm hoping this stops once the paint is work of the rim

  • I don't mind tinkering but reading that article is hard work ha!

I may just order mini vs, simpler solution.

  • You'd have to sacrifice mud and mudguard clearance and mechanical advantage but Tektro RX5 are decent at 85mm arm length or 926AL if you want to go 80mm, CX9 if you are a tart.

Decent pads are important. Swissstop Blue/Koolstop salmon.

  • Could you not get some single speed specific cranks which would (should) guarantee the correct chainline?

  • Better bars, worse photo.

  • hands down best bike on forum.

  • I did a little toe in action before I left the house and it's all gravy now. No issues on my commute.

  • Revolutionary. Is this the 2018 hhsb????

  • What's the deal with the marshmallows in the rims?

  • Cushioning! They're so plush, it's like a magic carpet.

  • Never seen anything like it but then again I'm not into fat bikes. Is it a custom thing or can you buy the rims like that stock? Defo one of the craziest machines on here, in the best sense of the word...

  • Have to be Dura Ace? I have some silver Ultegra front/rear mechs going spare if you're interested. 6600 I believe.

  • I have sooo much want for this bike. It is epic! Massive thumbs up!

  • A lot of rims that wide have cut outs to help keep weight down.

    Also allows for some decoration

  • the more you know... cheers!

  • So after riding the sscx around I've realised I need 35c tyres and disks on a road bike, better braking and much comfort.

Anyone know of any decent all road/ cx frames for a decent price or recommendations?

My caad10 is nice but now I want more comfort and less agro!!

I was thinking of getting a 2016 caadx and using that as a base for many upgrades?
