  • <3 Big Ring Beast Award.

Yeah, a little promotion goes a long way. Just look how many riders Newbury have for their hillclimb - 134!

  • I'd be up for an early season ride around the Gracious Pond circuit. Nice quiet roads, good stiff test!

I really think some of you should put this event in your 2017 diaries.

  • Bit too hilly for me!

  • @xavierdisley, curious, how did your time yesterday match up to other rides on the E2/10? I've only ridden the 10 once before. Despite the headwind, I couldn't believe that I got to the turn with a 25mph avg.

  • PS did see you before at the HQ, but as you had your serious face on I left you alone!! :0)

  • lol I'm not really that serious :D

I've never ridden the E2/10 before in fact, but couldn't handle the bike at all on the way out so my time should be taken with a pinch of salt as I was sat very high on the aerobars trying not to crash. Once I've downloaded the data (no power meter) I should be able to work out what would have happened but I would have expected 20:3x at the moment on that day with current fitness.

  • I started 17 minutes before you, and not once did I suffer from a big gust of wind. For me it seemed very constant. Can only guess I got lucky!

  • It was rocket back to be fair but I did consider bailing at the first sliproad, odd really but all sorts of discussion on TT forum about wind etc.

Long day out but I'll be back (on fixed - was using the geared training bike yesterday), would be a good one on a more even day on fixed I think, mainly because the turnaround is way faster than V718.

  • Awful news. RIP Ian.

  • Longland still right up there!

I just need to lose half my bodyweight and I'll be bang on for this event.

  • Sad news.

Why do they even have support cars for an hour long race? If you need a bike change or something, your race is over. Pointless.

  • stunning ride so far from Ryan Mullen, very average from Marcin, and a disappointing ride from Hayley yesterday.

Hayley's bike seems to have been messed about with because of failing UCI regs, but looks like being fast on a dual carriageway isn't necessarily a good indicator of being fast on an international stage...

Phinney is going well, Dowsett not so much...

  • live on BBC website too...

  • Yup disappointing result for Hayley, but I'm not sure it's representative of her actual abilities. She's previously beaten several riders who beat her on the day, and the temperature and last minute changes can't have helped either.

She said her position was adjusted to be shorter and taller than normal. I don't know how big the changes were but 1cm forward and 1 cm lower made c.90sec over 10miles to me so small changes can have a massive effect. I also noticed no trip suit which is a shame, although I did spy some stitching on one of the Adidas stripes :-).

Arguably, most of that course was on dual carriageways. No doubt Xav can give us an exclusive inside line on what happened. :)

  • there was no steady stream of trucks to alter conditions in Doha....

  • And wow, Tony Martin. Still/again the best tester in the world.

  • there was no steady stream of trucks to alter conditions in Doha....

Ha. Well, that shouldn't affect her more than others, should it? (I have no idea what I'm talking about here.)

  • Ricieved wisdom seems to be that passing trucks have a disproportionate benefit for (a) the faster riders and (b) more aero riders. Since Hayley can probably be presumed to be at the slippery end of the spectrum she may get a comparatively greater advantage.

  • but looks like being fast on a dual carriageway isn't necessarily a good indicator of being fast on an international stage...

Haven't we known this for years? It's only really Boardman who has made the progression from domestic TT rider to being a world class TT rider. Many have tried and failed.

  • The bike setup thing was extremely frustrating and needn't have resulted in the changes that were made. Heat is a big thing and you can see a lot of riders struggling compared with normal, it's a shame that the comparison will be made with V718 times etc. as that's not really relevant. Results in UCI TTs this year (eg. Crono Champenois, which was pre another AeroCoach session where we found her some more speed) show that she's right up there in normal conditions. At CC she finished in between Lisa Brennauer and Sophie-Ann Duyck (6th and 8th yesterday), and ~1min behind Amber Neben (1st) and Ellen Van Dijk (2nd) over a longer distance:

  • must have been a really tough call for the mechanics to make, and a real shame that it clearly affected her race, its one thing to have a bad day, but to find that you were having a bad day because of a change brought on by inconsistent comissairing must be frustrating for both her and you.
