  • Anyone got an old digital point and shoot lying around they don't use anymore? Something along the lines of the finepix A series.
I'm after some entry level, cheap as-chips, video footage that these are perfect for. Got about £20 to spend.
    Cheers!

  • here are some of the widescreen lens photos i have done in the past, (all the ones i have with bikes in) couple people asked to see some more, i'll throw a few more up as and when

  • Schweet. Did you use an anomorphic lens?

I've been looking at Schneiders on the bay but haven't really bothered to pull the trigger...

  • Yup, anamorphic lenses. I have one I'm wanting to sell if you're interested. It's a 35mm lens and has a big clamp fitting around it which you could use to fashion it in to some sort of rail attachment.

The one I used here was a smaller 16mm proskar anamorphic lens.

  • a few leftovers from this weeks competition

  • Really like this one as well :) I'm a sucker for 2.35:1...

I'm interested in how you correct the files though - do you just free-transform in Photoshop until it looks about right?

For those wondering wtf we're taking about, anamorphic lenses squash the image horizontally so they could get widescreen aspect ratios on 35mm film. The projector lenses would have the reverse effect to unsquash the image...
These days they're used mostly stylistically by Tarantino and Nolan.

  • yup, transform it, although you have to be quite precise about it. i made a photoshop action to do it automatically since there are a few steps which are always the same.

ill do a tutorial as theres not much online about anamorphic photography (at least there wasnt when i was trying to figure it out a few years ago).

you can see the process then and the set up i use and some tips on where to get the lenses at a reasonable price etc

  • this one here is an anamorphic image but not corrected in photoshop, so how it is actually picked up by the camera and how you view it through the view finder.

also the colours are wonky as it's a colour infrared image

  • Anyone used the Leica Q? Deliberating about whether or not to fork out for one. My 5D is become too cumbersome and i've always lusted after a Leica.
