Not seated on the rim correctly? More air should pop them out...
-
• #353
Maybe. They're holding 80psi though?

Rims are sl25s I think.

Bounce them off the ground to pop them onto the bead.

Have I made a basic error?
Did you use EasyFit? It does exactly what it says on the tin. With lube, it shouldn't need overpressure to get everything up onto the shelf, but a bit of extra pressure during mounting won't do any harm. I think the standard blow-off test is twice the maximum rating printed on the side wall, but if you get anywhere near that before the tyre seats properly you should be looking for where the real problem is.

Happened to me first time. Put some tubes, soapy water and let them stretch for few days. Then try again.
Make sure you use soapy water and enough rim tape to get them out of the central channel of the rim -
• #359
Yep
Never used lube or soap. Stretching them with a tube in for a bit is a fair approach - you'll get to find out how much pressure is needed for them to mount.

Thanks all. I didn't expect any problems as they were mounted fine and dandy on my novatecs for the last 6 months.

So I tried to ghetto convert my non-tubeless Kojak tyres yesterday with Gorilla tape and a valve from dead tube and it didnt work LOL. /csb
I didnt have access to air compressor/CO2 either. Just wanted to check if the bead snaps the way it does with an innertube. The only official tubeless component was the rim.

afaik, you're better off with a proper tubeless valve. I've tried a few few combos to make tubeless now, and the stans stuff always works. I know you're going super ghetto, but should have at least 1 element of the whole tubeless shindig to make it work to a degree.

This was just an MVP to get the hang of the process, will be getting Stans tape and Effeto valves once I have tubeless ready tyres .. or should I get proper stuff and try with non-tubeless ready Kojaks? I already have Effeto sealant and no access to air compressor.

I have a tubeless charger pump

Stans and effeto valves are my go to combinations. As for tubeless on non-tubeless tyres, it works, but it's a pain as I found out you have to keep the right pressure constant. Too much and it pops off, too little (for say, off road) and the tyre just rolls off, as opposed to TLR tyres which seem to have a higher tolerance to variances in pressure.
I don't know the science behind it, but this is from what I experimented with. You tried this?
Or if you want to own something fancy, this has yet to fail me. -

I had Stans valves fail on two Pacenti rims... but then everything about Pacenti rims fails sooner or later.

Had a complete fail trying to set up my new tyres tubeless with gorilla tape yesterday. On older WTB PowerBeam rims. Have them on and bedding in with tubes now, hopefully second time's the charm.
On the plus side, the 20" tube job I did on my 317's is holding strong. A little maintenance cleaning out mud from between the tube and bead hook and a little section of the seal, but it's performed amazingly. Just seems like it might be impossible to change the tyre while preserving the usability of the tube strip?

Schwalbe seems to get tubeless thing right! Bought X One for cx season, had no rim strip, sealant etc but decided to do some experimenting anyway since I was ill and had nothing to do.
Applied one layer of electrical tape on top of usual rim strip, cut out valves from puncruted inner tubes and pumped hard with track pump. Tire inflated.
Left overnigh - seem to hold air reasonably fine even without sealant. Tested in tub and water for leaks, there seemed to be some at valve. Tightened that up, will report back tomorrow. -

Success! With the help of a home-made air charger I have Specialized Fast Traks mounted on 20-year old rims with gorilla tape, chopped valves and Stan's. This is possibly my proudest moment in ghetto wrenching yet

Only 23C on the X-Guard and nothing bigger than 25C? Clearly the wideness revolution hasn't arrived in Japan yet, which may also explain why Shimano are being so slack about putting decent width rims on their road wheels.

Nah he rates them thats all but can not get back on here after the site moved so can not give his own opinion.
Shwalbe seem the go to ones.
Help, I've just mounted my s-ones on new pacenti rims and they're not sitting nice and round. There's a section on both where the tyre seems to be sitting lower? Have I made a basic error?!
