I have found a Conti 4 season 28c but didn't test it yet, light and beautiful stuff !

The bike is custom and the position is perfect, for me.

Yes, a Serotta, a Brother, a Thorn, a Brompton.

I've had 3 cycle fits in addition to another for the Mather build. They've never produced variance greater than 1cm in the reach, seat height or position.

All of the custom bikes make me feel like Road Runner, I'm just floating along, legs whirring, for hundreds of Km, without feeling fatigue or pain or stuff like that. I freaking love my bikes for giving me that feeling.

Which is exactly how I fell on my Enigma that I bought on here after a bit of tweaking by @scherrit. I just ride further until I fell pain and fatigue sometimes ;-)

Thread necro! Those who have been around the forum for a long time may remember that about 12+ years ago I got a custom frame from Robin.

It’s served me well in the meantime, although getting cut up by a panel van means I need to take it for an alignment check at Bikefix.

Whilst it was put to one side I built a titanium Spectrum - although I let the build thread lapse so need to put some photos up.

And now, @shroppy sold me his surplus (ha!) Mather. Which should fill a gap nicely - road bike mentality, but clearance for tyres which will laugh at the UK’s excuse for road maintenance.

I cannot claim the build will progress rapidly - if nothing else I need to pick a colour(s) and send it off for paint. But I’ll try and keep the thread updated as I progress.

A long time ago Robin Mather was selling a frame that he'd made for himself. I was poor at the time and couldn't really afford it.

It was a red 26" touring bike with a built in custom rack and some other nice bits.

It still makes me sad that it got away :(

Yes, I remember that one well - he was not long back from a tour on it somewhere far-flung when he finished my bike. If it helps make you feel any better, there’s an interview with him somewhere where he says that actually a converted MTB was more suitable for long-distance touring.

Ironic since that's what I have now! I'd still like that bike.

IIRC correctly he said it was based on his old converted MTB?

My green one is 15 years old, and I rode it today on a few hour amble around Central London. It is such a pleasure to ride, still mechanically perfect after all these years and so smooth to ride.

I don't ride enough, but sometimes it's such a pleasure I find it hard to stop.

What it really needs now is some gravel tyres
