Good work. I need to make more effort!
I like Hirsch lizard straps. Not too pricey either.

"Pulling the cock directly vertically during assembly will result in deformation of the hair spring - you will be pulling the cock up, but the balance wheel will be obstructed so the spring will stretch beyond the point of elasticity. "
Snigger.

ok so how badly could I have been tucked up buying this cheeky vintage watch for the doris? I have owned omegas in the past and reckon I can see if its a fake on delivery, but it was cheap at 55 quid inc delivery.

it looks quite right from my eyes. the ladies watches always fetch less than mens and mechanical wind for ladies is even less appealing (which is good if your buying).
that said it's described as an omega, so if what you receive is not an omega you are perfectly within your rights to request a full refund. i reckon. -

I bought a job lot of doer-uppers last week. 7 watches, ranging from 1955 to late 1970s. All ticking but filthy. Some quite interesting watches. There is a Newmark (made in Croydon) and a Smiths in there.
I stripped, cleaned, oiled and reassembled the first one today. The brand is Puerta...not sure of its provenance. It has an EB 8021n movement.
6 hours from start to finish. Keeping good time so far and spotlessly clean now.

Thanks chaps. Whoever the poor sod was who chopped it in must have only got 20/25 quid for it for this bloke on eBay to be selling it at any sort of profit after postage and eBay/PayPal fees..

I've just ordered a Steinhart 'Flieger'. Comparing it to other brands I'm surprised how inexpensive it is.

I found out last night that the company I work for has an employee benefit scheme that they don't really talk about, 20% off Goldsmiths and loads of other watch retailers. The small print states discount isn't applicable to Rolex, Panerai, Chanel, Jaeger, IWC, Omega, Breitling or Cartier, which from a cursery scan leaves Tudor, Nomos Glashütte, Longines or Hamilton that I'd like. Hmmmm Pelagos.....North Flag.........

I don't know about the others but I know that Rolex don't permit dealers to offer discounts on their products. Would undermine the exclusivity. Sigh.

If it's a NOMOS you fancy, there's 40% off Metros and Minimatiks in the Jura sale at the moment.

Looks 100% OK. Slightly dirty and I can see some corrosion around the crown wheel, but ok.

Which Smiths movement did you get? I have loads of spares. The cal. 27 and 604xx series are all quite nice to work on (they stole a lot of influences from JLC like the odd mainspring barrel / crown wheel arrangement).

Total fluke but I won this week's acca too :D That makes things a bit more realistic!
I think he may mean the new soft silicon strap that Turtles come with.
I don't think they're generally available yet like the bracelet, if my search for a bracelet was anything to go by.
