I hear them used wrongly
There are conditions under which it might be illegal to use an audible means of approach.
Highway Code Rule 112
The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively. You MUST NOT use your horn
while stationary on the road when driving in a built-up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am
except when another road user poses a danger.
Just be careful how you use your horn (or other audible means of approach) out there, motherfuckers!

La Cucaracha blaring out as you wave goodbye to the person that was standing next to you not ten seconds before.

I only hear bells being used by twats who think that binging whilst riding down a pavement makes me want to get out of the way and not fucking kill them by ripping their arm off and shoving it down their cunting throat. Therefore Alan, I'm out. You wanker.

Just thinking about bike bells makes me massively angry. Is there a support group? "Hi, my names Ben and I have an irrational hate of anyone with a bike bell".

Bells are compulsory here in Oz... Makes fuck all difference most of the time, most pedestrians still ignore them... Queenslanders tho', not much upstairs, innit?

I must admit that when I lived there, a bell sounded would just make a ped turn toward the sound, like a moth to a flame

Are you now a Queenslander?

Once again, I never said they are not useful, just that I think they get abused by overzealous cyclists.
The amount of times I hear them used wrongly far outweighs the times they are used correctly in my opinion.
