I've been using a crappy £20 jacket for the last couple of winters and I'm going to get something decent this year. Is PT jacket warmer but Race Cape more versatile?

Hardshell for proper winter

I have a racecape. Expect to sweat a lot while wearing it, and it's not fully waterproof. Mine gives up after 20 mins or so, quicker if it's heavy rain.
Still useful, packs to fill a jersey pocket and is nicely fitted. Useful for showers and if it gets cold. Would have been disappointed if I'd paid full price though.

How old is it? Mine is still fully waterproof after 2 years and I've only reproofed it once.
@Angus pro team jacket is my favourite piece of kit ever made. Used mine every day of winter riding for almost four years now. Still great. Gonna finally get a new one though as mine has stretched a bit in that time.

Pro team jacket is really excellent. I wore it all last winter and have just bought one of them string vest base layers so that I can get a bit more evening/early morning autumn use out of it as it gets a bit hot with a merino base.
I seem to think we had a very dry winter up here last year (York is pretty dry generally), but I think I probably wore it every Sunday from October - March, and the Gabba if it was going to absolutely pour down.

Thanks, I'll be trying one of the PTJs out then. Fingers crossed sleeve meets glove!

Received my order and WTF is up with the receipt being in a black envelope, I feel like I've been Cordially Invited to a Funeral

It's the funeral for your credit card

If there was an option to not have it, would you?

Srs question?
Yes from me. Don't like so much extraneous packaging, it just feels wasteful and unnecessary. Can't really be reused, unlike the nice little black boxes.
A simple "minimal packaging" tickbox option on internet shopping (not just rapha) would be great, actually. Wonder if it could take off. -
• #26992
I've kept all mine for absolutely no apparent reason.
-
• #26993
agreed. ott / wasteful packaging, whether it's fruit from tesco or stuff from rapha always annoys me.
-
• #26994
Remember when Rapha items came in their own pouches, like Assos, I liked that.

Now I feel a bit bad. Anyway I'm not sure I'm the core demographic - I only buy Rapha on sale and sparingly. I think a digital receipt is enough for me, but I appreciate getting the free returns label. Maybe a little smaller and grey? Something a bit Night Club Luxe about a black envelope that big, but then again I don't pretend to understand the luxury market.

I'd tick a "minimal packaging" box on order
-
• #26997
I'd tick a "no logo" box in respect of the garments themselves.
-
• #26998
If the black envelope is wife-proof I'm happy with it
-
• #26999
Must be memeable: spends £300 on Rapha garment; demands minimal packaging

I'd happily forfeit the fancy packaging if it equated to lower prices... Although I have to say it's been handy stationery for my opportunistic blackmailing sprees.
These core bibs really are rather nice - I find myself putting on an extra kit wash mid-week now, so that I can use the core bibs rather any of my other bibs.
And not too pricey.
