These for a neighbour and would like any honest input people can give on values both in current condtion and if refurbished..

I have the opportunity to buy these but want to make sure i am not paying over the odds for them in their current condition so would like straight up advice on prices.

Two of the frames i cannot identify and none of them i can put a date on! Please see pictures and comment to your hearts content, all input greatly appreciated. Once refurbished i will post them on here for sale!

  • pics are visible. The hetchins got to be worth a bit I'd think, but non seem to have massivly expensive parts on them in terms of cranks etc that I can make out. What are the brakes-Mafac, GB, Weinmann etc? And are the saddles Brooks or Wrights or what? Because brooks/lycett tend to sell for much more than others. I suppose it depends what you where going to do with them all, use them, sell them, renovate them???

  • Once refurbished i will post them on here for sale!

  • Going to renovate, I have the skills and workshop access, I also have buffing machines, a paint booth, full parts cleaner. The saddles are all brooks that are leather, nice swallows ect. need to identify Hetchins lug model, the scot has a mix of campagnolo and shimano 600 parts, the yellow bertin has dura ace, some parts are suntour ect. will upload a bunch of detail photos shortly, running around lots today!

  • If the price and size were right, I'd have the Carlton off you.

  • I am afraid i know modern bikes well but don't often deal with classics and would need advice on what a reasonable price would be

  • nice bikes-- shame theyre all really small sizes-- love that hetchins

  • well inthat case got to be worth a bit. Flying scot frames seem to go for £200+ on ebay, depending on the age etc, but having said that they hardly fly of the shelves as it were, take a while to get a good price. The Carlton looks to be post Raleigh take over, 60's onwards. Only really seen Carlton Flyers /Internationals cmmand much money, the rest seem to sell quite cheap even if 531...

  • thanks, Appreciate that feedback... yes my same feeling with carlton.. never seem to be worth much at all, but all the same, if I refurb these and get them gleaming could be ok. Otherwise split i suppose..

  • Good idea to equip the best frames with the best kit.. they seem to have been mixed and matched, worse saddle and bars on hetchins!

  • details

  • Two curly Hetchins then? Shame about whats been put on them... and the paintjobs though
Edit: What size are all these? They look rather small? Which will impact value obvs due to the smaller (no pun) market. That said Curlys sell well no matter what condition. For the effort you could put into restoring them it might work out better to sell as they are?

  • I know... but essentially combine parts of the bikes, and refurbish the paintwork/frames, get decals and lacquer well could be good right? If the frames are valuable then built and fully functional has to stand for something..

  • I have the time and facilities, also enthusiasm, so would they increase considerably in value if they were renovated to a high standard?

  • I'd be tempted to split it all and sell parts/ frames? If you're literally looking to make money.
You'd probably find you get a better return for your efforts. Some of those parts I doubt will add any value/ have much value, and the saddles will sell well seperately

  • i think you right, frames refurbished and sold individually, job lot the parts and sell the good saddles/mavic wheels separately. prices?

  • essentially i need to make an offer for all this to the neighbour, who is keen to get it out before her step-children start selling off.. so ideally i want to profit from it. what would be a good job lot price based on condition...

or would i be better sourcing NOS group sets for the hetchins and scot and parcelling as full bikes..?

  • Nah that'd eat all your profit. Split to parts (clean, polish, etc) and sell on. I'm not sure I'd even repaint them, keep as original as possible. You said you have all the facilities to paint though, so I guess it depends on your skills and interest. Would be good to see what you do to them if you do!
How much you offer, depends how nice you are? A cheeky £500 might be enough (£100 per bike, although some are worth more than others obvs). Have a quick google or sold items on eBay might give you a rough idea

  • And check the Hetchins ARE Hetchins before you throw cash at them. There are fakes out there. Check the frame number and use the online resources:
    http://www.hetchins.org/identify.htm

  • Don't repaint them!

  • thank you very much for your advice!
