That Curtis is a mountain biker's London commute bike
-
• #1431
should have used way bigger tyres

Are discs fine with track ends? Would have thought some slippage might be an issue

No problems on my 1x1 (and Karate Monkey in the past). Shimano QR, currently using a tug but been fine without it in the past.

took a picture of that curtis at bespoke in the lee valley velodrome
best bike at the show in my opinion -

Well yes, but mountain biker. I think it's quite old as well. There's a guy I see on my commute on a Sanderson Soloist with skinny 26" Gatorskins (probably at 80psi)- must feel horrible.

Okay, good to know, thanks

What exactly would be the point in a bike like this? Seems a bit odd to me.
Why the small, sloping frame when its used as a road bike?
Why the 26" wheels when you're going to only run 28c Gatorskins?
Why only one brake when its for riding in traffic?
Seems to me like the guy could have achieved everything he's gotten out of this bike without the need to go custom, from an otp adventure road bike. -

the point would be having a nice looking bike that is fun to ride for a variety of different riding styles
that being said i am biased having something very similar myself
off road to brighton, canal paths, solid commuter, nipping around epping forest all are uses for something like this and i'm sure it rides lovelyit doesn't really need a " point " it's just a bike for riding and putting a smile on your face, who wouldn't smile with that underneath them

Reminds me of when I put 1.25" Specialized FatBoys on my Cannondale mtb for city riding. That bike was heaps of fun

did very similar

• #1441
it's all cool, but y u single brake?
-
• #1442
2 on mine ^^
lots of bmx'ers use just the rear brake, it must be a personal thing for the rider of the curtis -
• #1443
y u single brake?
?
-
• #1444
Only thing I'd change on that Curtis would be to have a 26" set of knobbly wheels and a 700c set of slicks ( assuming they'd fit ).

Plus 2 brakes, but then I'm fat.

i thought the luminous green outers might be visible .... from space

26x2.3" and 700x28c are about the same diameter.

Single brake and a magic gear, but I like it.
